Okay, this is a whining thread and I know I should just be patient. But with the nice weather coming, I won't have time to fool around inside and work on building my SKS and Mosin.

My problem is aftermarket part availability for the SKS and Mosin Nagant.

I have checked many, many websites that sell aftermarket parts and I can find some things but others are constantly sold out. below is a list of parts that I want and cannot get as well as some that I have purchased already.

SKS:

Archangel stock - want want want, but sold out
bolt buffer - sold out
trigger spring and sear kit from Wolf- sold out
Tapco 5 rnd and 5/20 rnd detachable magazines - sold out
Magwedge scope mount - purchased
Muzzle break - purchased
fore grip with slide out bipod - purchased

So I'm almost there, just can't seem to find those elusive parts.

Mosin Nagant:

ATI scope mount and bent bolt kit - sold out
Muzzle break - can't find one that threads on (will not purchase the bolt on kind, heard they fly off)
Archangel AA9130 stock - purchased ( I can't believe I found one, just lying there one day at my local gun shop, $260)
Bipod - purchased
additional magazines - purchased
Timney trigger - wating for Jerry to get back to me from Mystic Precision
Head space gauges - purchased ( have a few Mosins, got to find the one with the best chamber)

After I get these parts for the Mosin, its off to the gunsmith to get the barrel cut down, re-crowned with 11 degree target crown, parkerized finish to barrel and receiver, keeping the bolt and handle chrome. Also might get the gunsmith to mount the ATI mount kit and bent bolt or let him mount his own type of scope mount if he's comfortable doing it as well as thread the muzzle and try to find a threaded muzzle brake for it. After all that, its into the Archangel stock and maybe fiberglass bedding.

So, I'm just frustrated that I'm at a standstill right now waiting for parts to become available. I have lots of time to work on them right now, but give it a few weeks and it'll be nice out and all the outside work will start. I guess I'll maybe have to put the builds on hold till next winter, but I'll tell you what, my trigger finger sure is itching!!

I know.....I'm being whiny! :ang

Its not like you can't shoot them without all the stuff bolted on. They do function just fine in stock configuration. So go shoot them and build as you go.

Welcome to being a Canadian gun owner. I had a look at Higginson's powder price lists a couple of days ago and they have entire pages of powder listings showing as out of stock. If you are frustrated, imagine being a dealer and having nothing to sell.

Have you tried hical? They have a lot of the stuff you want. Very easy to deal with too.

PS: I don't think tapco makes the short 5rd mag anymore. Promag does and the new ones apparently work well. Hical has those too.

One of those things you get used to.
If you can see it and reach it.............buy it, cos it wont be there tomorrow. And 75% of the stuff on a dealers web site is just fluff to get you looking.
I had a dressed up SKS and might have a few bits of it still in the shed ( took it all off cos I felt foolish at my age ) and it never shot any better than it does now in stock config.
Pretty sure there was a couple of mags 5/20 Tapcos, if I can find em I'll PM you............not promising anything, they could be long gone.

I just got my Timney trigger in from CI Distrubution. Best price I could find.

Okay, wow, CI Distribution is awesome!!! found out I live only 45 minutes away from them!! :D I ordered the Mosin Nagant Timney trigger
and while I was on the site decided to order the Rem 870 trigger fix as well!!

$147 shipped for the Mosin trigger
$134 shipped for the 870 trigger,

Thanks everybody who has responded, the build is getting closer to finished!! will post pics when all done.

Thanks so much!! I would take them off your hands, lol no prob.

Just trying to make a fun plinker gun out of one of my SKS's that has no matching parts and a nasty looking wood stock (gouges and dents all over).

Yeah I have a few other SKS's and Mosins I can shoot but I'm the kinda guy that refuses to use or shoot something until it is totally configured to what I have pictured in my head. Obviously I have shot the guns I'm modifying to make sure they are safe and accurate before modifying them.

That is a complete ripoff. Almost twice of what other retailers have them for. No wonder they have them in stock. OP, SFRC has Tan Tapco 5/20s, but I'm guessing you probably want black ones right? Kelly's Sporting Goods also has OD green and black, but for $40.

Yeah, does seem a little pricey, maybe I'll wait
