Looking for a QUALITY bolt action 7.62X39

My buddy had one of those cz527's. Accurate with everything we ran through it (didn't try any Chinese surplus, though)
Accuracy ran around the 1" mark if memory serves, but we were trying a bunch of different ammo to see what worked best. It all worked fine.
We pulled some fmj and put in some softpoints, and they hit to the same POI. Great for practicing for hunting without breaking the bank.

Does anyone make a really fine 7.62X39 bolt action rifle?
Not interested in anything else, nor in a Norinco. I know, they work fine, but that is not what I am looking for this time around.

The only one I am aware of at the moment is the CZ 527 Carbine. Anyone here have one?

Ted

The CZ is your best bet. If you want a really nice bolt action rifle, however, you should buy one chambered in a decent caliber...something useful.

Me pense you should grow your mewsie beard back and sport one of these VZ 52/57.
The young'uns will be so awed inspired with the rarity of this critter you could
watch'em drewl.
I just happen to know where there is one coming up for sale.
Clitty clack clickity clack and a self bestowed carving knife too.
Sea krit compartment in the butt to hide stuff.
Packing this would give you extra traction on your soles too.

Just trying to look out for you Ted, giving you some opshuns.........

Ted,

there is the small mauser from Zastava but I don't know if there is one in Canada.

Ya know, for a guy that was trimming the herd . . .

Why not (pun intended) get a M-7 or a short action 700, find a reasonably priced, light contour .30 caliber barrel that can be trimmed to 20" or so, and chamber it for 7.62X39. With a .308" bore, the bullet selection for the little rifle would be much better than a .310".:stirthepot2:

The bad man makes a very good point!

The AIA Lee Enfield ones in 7.62x39mm are a nice little unit that are really well put together (way over built) and use easy to get mags. A big plus is that they come with a chrome lined bore, so you can shoot ex-mil ammo without worrying about it starting to rust on the way home.

Very fine caliber, however SAKO has taken care of that one for me.

The 7.62 deal is just going to be a fun-gun experiment. That, and I have always suspected that it may be quite an accurate cartridge in a good rifle, sort of a poor man's 30 Whisper.

I've been kind of thinking the same thing . maybe use a fast twist 308 barrel and a maybe a 30-40 krag reamer ( headspaced tight on a 7.62 x 39 go guage ) so you have a long throat for really heavy bullets .

for dies I was thinking of using 30-40 krag dies with about 1/3 machined off the bottom .

if a guy was to use a 303 barrel ( or similar ) , then use a 303 reamer instead and 303 dies .

I caught that too. :)

That's a VG idea ........... I do have a 700 action, stock and 308 take-off bbll on hand.

I recently bailed on 7.62X39... sold the three guns that I had chambered for it... one of which was a CZ 527... nice little rifle and accurate with reloads... but in my singles, I just prefer my .30/30's with spire point bullets and LVR... wasn't much point in doing both, and I am trying to reduce the number of cartridges I load for... anything 7.62 (other than SKS) sells like "hotcakes."

Ted, I had a CZ 527 rifle also. It was light handy and accurate . There were a couple of things that I did not like. The scope has to be mounted high above the bore because of the shape of the bolt handle. I shoot left handed and operate the bolt with my left hand and found that it seems to bind a bit but that may not happen when you use your right hand. I really disliked the fact that the magazine protrudes so for below the stock and this is right at the balance point of the rifle. But as I said it is a fine rifle but I am hoping to find a LH Zastava M85 in this caliber.

The new bolt handle is different than the original one and will allow for lower scope mounting. For older models you can get a modified version from James Calhoon plus his "Hunker" mounts, which I believe are the lowest mounts you can get for the CZ527.

Not many options
CZ 527 would be the way to go.
I personally really like the Mauser bolt, detach mag, and short barrel.
would be a great bush gun.
2-7 Leopold would match perfectly.

I've got one(cz) and i love it!-great shooter and feels light and nimble at the same time...mine happens to like cheap russian non corrosive ammo enough for a 1.75 inch group at 200 yards and with the hornady sst tipped hunting ammo it shoots one ragged hole at 100...the only complaint is the bolt handle but cz offers a modified one now that clears the scope better,i guess the original one was really just designed for use with open sights...ive got a leupold vx3 2.5-8 on warne qd rings and it works great now ...also the adjustable set trigger is just amazing!... for a relatively inexpensive rifle you can't go wrong with the cz carbine...ive been thinking about getting the 223 version as well ever since i got this one...
