Recently contacted a site sponsor about getting some 45-70 ammo shipped to me here on the East Coast. I was informed it was going to be anywhere from $40-60 to ship up to 2 boxes (that's right, I said boxes of ammo, 20 rds per box!) to me! This is on top of the $40-50.00 per box it costs for the ammo itself. All I can say is WTF!!!! Shipping rates are getting ridiculous, especially for us "have-not" maritimers... I don't reload, but it's BS like this that will cause me to get into reloading. I wonder what the shipping will be for brass, powder, and bullets?? This "ammo shortage" better run its course sooner other than later.

I'm from NS as well, and find that placing an order for myself and a couple of pals works well, as we split the shipping. Also, Canpar seems to have the best rates. My last order was almost $400, from Kate at ammosupply.ca and the shipping was $38. Hope this helps
Yup, as mentioned sometimes you have to look around for retailers who offer flat rate/free shipping, or figure out how the shipping scales and do a group buy if that's more affordable.
I got 5000 Dominion(Murom) brand primers from Canada Ammo for $147, as part of a group buy. I think that's a pretty good deal, especially since it will quite likely last me a few years.
Some people are charged that much to get a box of 1000 shipped. When you see a good deal, grab it with both hands.

That's the truth.. had a shipment from out west to nearest city 50km closer (shippers depot) cut in half by not shipping to my rural address.

They usually employ a contractor which often costs as much or more as the main journey just to do the last few miles.

Yes that's what I discovered..and they did not even ship to my door.
Living in a small place, its quite easy to pick up what can't/won't/didn't drop off. Local delivery here (canpar, etc, ) will only make 1 attempt to bring it do the door. But seeing you can drive from end-to-end of BOTH our communities in 15 min or less, its really no biggie to go to local depot to pick up packages.....

Well in my case they were / are paid to deliver to my door and choose to load it on a tractor trailer for their convenience. The main carrier Canpar were not even aware this is what is getting done. My (local) pickup is a 12 KM drive.
