Co-Witness Sights - What's the Trick?

Ok, So I have this rifle with a long picatiny rail on it and flip up sights. I wanted to put a scope on it so I picked up a 2 - 7 power scope. The scope mount is not exactly the right height but it's pretty close to center of the sights.

Bottom line is I cannot see the front sight when looking through the scope.

So... what's the trick? Does the Co-Witness thing only work with a 1 power scope? I was hoping 2x would be ok.

Or does the sights need to be exactly in the center of the scope?

Or do I just need a different scope?

Any thoughts?

You won't be able to use co-witnessed iron sights with ANY prismatic optic (Any magnified rifle scope, even a 1-4x at 1x power - as the lenses can offset where your front sight 'appears' to be sitting compared to the rear)

The only time you can use iron sights through your scope is if you have a red-dot sight, or a holographic type sight.

Unfortunately when it comes to a magnified optic, you can either get offset sights (that sit 45 degrees to one side) or a quick-release type scope mount. American Defense MFG, and Burris (the PEPR) are pretty good options depending on your budget, you can get cheaper ones but your optic won't return to zero at all.

Shameless plug for my gun, but this is what offset type iron sights would be like:

For the irons, you can either get a regular set of clamp-ons and get a couple cheap-o 45 degree offset picatinny rails (can be had for as cheap as 15 bucks a pop) or specialized 45 degree offset irons which can be fairly pricey.

This thread is no longer about sights.

This thread is now about your AR-15 wood grip!!! I love it and fear it all at once. Its pretty but its totally out of place. Its messing with my mind.

different rings. some rings have a space so you can look under the scope and use the iron sights

Even 1.25X will completely blur your front sight. Most high end 1-4X optics only dial down to 1.1 or so to eliminate the inside of the scope being visible to the shooter. S&B is one. The only way to cowitness is with an RDS. A QD scope mount is what you'll want to have both your scope and BUIS useable. I really like ADM mounts myself.

I just hate it when my bubble gets burst.

I saw this video and thought.. what a great system.

It would be awesome if it could be done with a 1-4 or something like that.
