The AK- SKS kit ( little update post 440 2015-03-19)( less ABS more wood and metal)

the 3dprinter is now on this side of the border i hope to get it for the week-end or before , i print one check if that fit work well and get some quotes , already spotted 2 shop that have the ability to make it , after that will still have to test the metal version but if the 3dprinted one is perfect the metal one should be good to go , i dont want to give a timing but maybe in a couple of month i should be able to take your money , i know that some guys will probably want the ability to use the stripper clip so i may make 2 model of dust cover ,

i may put a fake safety like and Ak on it to just complete the look but im not sure about it ,

People complain about the price of a $200 archangel sks stock. Where do you think this will come in? No offence just trying to visualize the cost. This (and the op's AR style design) looks too well built, well designed to be affordable for most sks owners.

that why this one is very simple , optimized for an easy production , the most complicated part in this one is the machined block that hold the stock , in total it will have 3 machined parts , what left will be metal sheet , what influence the cost is the number , i think that we can do alot of the frame and dust cover in a 4'x8' metal sheet , more piece less setup more it cheaper ,

my ar15 look a like is looking nice but very complicated so it still need a redrawing to make it cheaper ,

How easy will it be to field strip the gun? Some pictures show a top cover like an ak other show a single piece of sheet metal that would need to be removed. Then there's the rear trunnion that looks to be in the way to take the bolt out.

pull the take down pin , lift the dust cover , with your hand you just remove the main spring , and the bolt will follow , you want to remove the trigger group , unscrew the pistol grip an the pistol grip adapter and that done ,

i'm using Autodesk Inventor 2014 still buggy if not more than the 2013 but for some things it better

I remember you said the back trunion could accept all AK stocks ; I'm guessing pistol grip and handguard are also AK compatible?

yep , it should , my trunion still keep the quotes of the original rear trunion so it should fit a large variety of stock , same for the pistol grip and lower handguard

Nice.

Have you thought about slightly modifying the top of the dust cover to give it the groove of an actual AK dust cover that makes it narrower at the top?

like this? May be a cheap way to make it even closer to the look of the real thing. IMO, it would appeal to people even more.

If the top was an AK top, maybe a AK recoil spring could fit in the rear trunion and be used instead of the SKS recoil spring.

i thinked about it but didn't try anything for the reason that with the ak dust cover you will not be able to use the sight of the sks ,sks bolt dont have the same shape , if i have time i will look deeper but im really not sure that will work

Been there, done that. Used an AK sheet metal blank and AK trigger group. The SKS receiver drops right into a sheet metal blank. Got bored with the project when the VZ58 came around.

finally got my 3dprinter , but still have to wait for a missing thermistors and my material in theory i should get those thing at the end of the week or at the beginning of the next week

after maybe 25-30 hour for the assembly and 2 very short night that look like that

I got my SKS today, just waiting for this stock to finally exist!!

nice ^^ . i dont really see what can going bad with my design like some people say it probably to well designed ... each problem I've see have been solved , only things it may required some fitting and adjustment and that all , when the printer is ready it will run nights and days have soo many thing to make and test + some crazy idea to put on the drawing sheet , at the end of the road i may have to buy a couple SKS and 10/22
