I bought a Ruger M77 in .30-06 a couple of years ago. It came with 7 boxes (each of 150gn Corelokts, 165gn, and 180gn). 4 were unopened, each weight had more than half remaining per box of the opened ones. I sighted in the 150s and used them to take my deer in 2011 (two actual rounds fired at game). I had 12 rounds left from 33. I pulled them, emptied the powder on the lawn, saved as new for work up. The next year, I used up the 180s, I had 25 of them and used 18 for sight in and practice. Two deer (one round each) and a moose (three rounds for her). Pulled the remaining two rounds, emptied the powder... Last year, I used the 165gn. I had 50 to start with. I only fired a dozen for sight in and practice due to time last year (I had decided to go back to my ATR, but broke my extractor the day before hunting started). I fired one round at a huge buck, not completely confident where ti was going to hit since it had been grouping at almost 2" but thefirst round was going basically where I wanted it to. So only body shots were to my liking. Still have enough to hunt this year and then they will all be gone and I can work up some rounds for me that work better.
I bought a new Savage 111 in '06 with the thumbhole stock 2 weeks ago. I have my work up rounds all set for it, as well as an additional 100 pieces of NEW brass already trimmed, uniformed, and primed waiting for the best load build. Hoping to shoot them this weekend but next week for sure while I am on leave. THEN...load up my hunting loads. Probably 150s since I still have a bunch of them and I will use this for deer and the Ruger for moose and elk until I am out of 180s.
