325 wsm

I remember clearly (well, as clear as clearly gets these days. lol).. when Winchester leaked a lil info that a mid bore short magnum was going to join the new family! MUCH chatter in the gun rags and of course the intertubes about this development... all kinds of 'I heard' and 'a reliable source' rumours there seemed to be two camps. Many said/though it was going to be a 338, lots saying its going to be a 358 a few hoping for 375s and some convinced it would be in the 40 calibre league. And then... I can't remember if it was a SHOT show or what Winchester announced the 325 WSM. Woah, the screaming and belly aching was loud and fierce especially stateside. Gall damned metric komunisto 8mm WTF?? It was entertaining to follow the story as I remember.

But like said back there haters gotta hate. Lots back there hated the whole WSM thing anyway predicting its imminent doom. I gotta admit I was surprised as hell they picked this calibre I think I was rooting for 35. Anyways all that aside its a great cartridge, it has sold quite well actually, seems fairly popular out here in BC for pretty good reason. Winchester can declare it a success fo sho IMO. Where interestingly the only WSM that is close to obscurity is in one of the highest selling calibres going... 7mm. Go figure.

I prolly won't be getting a 325 wsm I have a 350 mag so... But if I didn't and was looking for a big critter capable cartridge particularly if on a short action I'd give the 325 a serious look. There's more and more bullets coming out for it too.. to which the 8mm fans can thank Winchester.

Serious look.....I would say you should look. I myself herd all of the junk talked by people saying its no good, not worth getting, and etc....after buying it and made my loads 200Gr bullet approx. 2950fts from the chrony...I don't regret buying the rifle......the nice thing is that these rifles are normally on sale... so I got a good deal. Shoots as flat as a 300win mag, and hits as hard as a .338win mag. If you don't belive me well you just have to buy one and see for your self....keep in mind you can load a 220 gr spbt serria (B.C. .521)@ 2850fts @ 3967 foot pounds of hit. I really do like the 325wsm and like mentioned before, the 325 wsm can be a one gun do all for the 30-06,300win mag,338win mag. Theres lots of selection of bullets from 150,160,170,175,180,185,195,200,220gr bullets from many manufactures. The 325wsm can kill any north American big game including the great bears.

chrismc, that stock looks comfy, I like that layout.

No body asked me but Im gonna post some pics too, I recently got the larger 5 round mag for my savage 16 in 325, the factory one was only 2 in the mag and one in the barrel, not sure if the large mag will be awkward in the bush yet but I suppose Ill find out, some pictures of it laying on the carpet.

It's not about replacing anything. It's about the manufacturer introducing new stuff(well, new in 2005) on a regular basis so they don't lose market share. Mind you, there is a whole lot of 'new' stuff that doesn't do anything better than existing stuff. The WSM's are like that.
The manufacturer's marketing types think nothing of discontinuing products with no regard for existing customers as well. So, as mentioned, if you want anything 'new' or have something 'new', buy as much brass as you can afford and a set of dies, even if you don't reload now. Means you'll never end up with a rifle you can't get ammo for.

Is the 325wsm gonna make the test of time .Can it replace the 30-06,300 win and 338 win all at one time ...Does recoil really happen in the field shooting at game . Or does blast and recoil get left at the range bench ?

I don't think the 325 WSM has a big following or a big future - But the guys that have them are loyal to it - Really though due to the limited avail of ammo and the cost - its not for everyone- you really should be a reloader if you shoot this cartridge. I think Win made a mistake also when they brought it out - it would be far better off as a .338 cal because of bullet slection and popularity of the .338 caliber also ! JMHO :D RJ

The 325 wsm is doing very well actually . Your thoughts fall into ," haters will hate" . Some people can't accept change no matter if its guns, phones ,Tv , etc . Have you even shot one . Do you maybe have a 30-06, 300 mag or 338 by chance .

Check the sales rating of a 325 WSM and you will see its NOT very popular ! I am NOT a hater of the 325 WSM i just would prefer it to be a 338 WSM ! and yes I do have a 30-06 and a 338 and a 375 and MANY more ! Maybe the 325 is your FIRST and you know no different - thats OK too ! :D RJ

Ive had many rifles before with all sorts of calibers.....30-06,7x57,308win, 8x57,9.3x62, 6.5x55, 308Norma Mag, 45-70, and now I bought a 325wsm mag due to because it was on sale. But I am amazed at how powder efficient it is and what velocities it gets.

Heres a comparison. My load 68gr of imr 4350 200gr @ approx. 2950fts.....while a 300win mag or 338 mag....your putting 74-75 grs of powder. That approx. 8 grains difference.

Yes I know many other calibers could do the same as the 325wsm but I think its better than the 300wsm and 300 win mag. For me 338 would be on par...but I do like that you can get bullets ranging from 180-300gr bullets.

I actually do see a difference between calibers and I think that the 325wsm covers a good gap between the 300class-338class.

But for everyone there preference is different.....

a 9,3x62 and no scope ...

LOL...go get a 300 wsm and even with it , you can rid yourself of the 06 and 338. But I did know you had one or the other ..Its the short action, handy length overall and the simply something new . Give it a try some day ! JMO Elk325

Was in wholesale sports today and seen a guy lay down 1400.00 on a browning 325 wsm . He turned to me and said " it's a beaut"
