carried one in 87/88. finally figured out how to shoot it without the accompanying face bruise, then they took it away and gave us the new one.

I shot this today and the cheek slap was kinda getting to me after a while - I would love to know how to make it go away!
I can understand that sentiment seeing as I have access to things you don't...... but take solace knowing that you have more access (however remote the possibility might be) than I do to C1s, which are my favourite FAL variant....
I have a BSA L1A1 that I've tricked out with as many Canadian parts as I can find to make it look like a C1A1. I hang onto it in the hope that someday we can shoot them again, rather than keep them hidden away at home...
I was in a gun shop oh so many years ago looking at a L1A1 got swayed by a 9 mm now can't have a FN.
I have an isapor done the same but dewated for my military jeep.
I qualified with one back in the early 70's, so naturally had to have one of my own. Now it's a doorstop. Thanks to the government. Sigh. - dan
When I was a kid, I lived in Darlington - our schools had the best career day displays - courtesy of the recruiting guys at Catterick, you name it, they brought it by the truck load. As far as the legality of the L1A1 goes, if they trimmed the definition of "variant" some of those DSA guns from the US could make us all very happy
I have two of the Ishapores (one converted, approximately, to Canadian mil spec) sitting in my safe. Can't use them, can't take them out, can't take them to a range, can't leave the house unless I'm moving to another residence. Apparently, sometime in the late '90's, FN/FALS were all taken over by demons that can control anyone who possesses a FAL, thus transforming previously strict law-abiding FAL owners into drooling bloodthirsty monsters.
Strange. Maybe owning two of them, the demons have cancelled each other out? For some unknown reason, I have never been overcome with bloodlust, even though I possess these two guns. Could it be...that the Liberal Government was wrong????

I can imagine they must have been great displays. I remember getting picked up at Darlington and off to Helles and Vimy Barracks. I would love to own a L1A1 or similar. Have you seen the genuine Lithgow rifles Joe Poyer brought in back in the late 80s. I would give my right nut for one of those!

I now its getting off topic, but those Army days at Catterick were something else eh. And the recruiters .. I can remember a Colour Sgt trolling around the quarters when we finished school..........They got me eventually LOL. Ended up back at Catterick in 31 Comd.

- Me and a buds went halfers on three CASES of singapore Police Force Lithgow L1A1 s via Alan Lever in 1980. ADI 1969s and 1970s if I recall. We did not feel a bit demonic. And the CNR or CPR that had them waiting for pick up never turned zombie either. Or at least it never made the papers.
Actually Lever flooding the market with cheap L1A1 had a lot to do with FN FAL being reclassified as restricted, then prohib. Up until that point, FN FAL/L1A1 was non restricted, quite expensive, rather rare and hadn't made it to the radar of politicians, police and news reporters. That was all change when Lever made L1A1 so affordable even a guy on McD wage could just walk into his store and left with a L1A1 tugged under his arm. Politicians, police and anti news media began to freak.

nice buy , I owned one before (aromoana) .. then all the laws changed ... now that im back in the game , I think I will get another , sad I bought mine for $450 nzd when the army sold them all ....... should have kept it

I hate you. Really, I do. 
I bought a couple of L1A1 parts kits from Century Arms, back in the 80s, when the UK scrapped out their L1A1s. The parts kits were $80 each and used mags were $3, got 20 of them.
One of the kits was an obviously brand new rifle, except for the bolt carrier, which was beat to death. The other kit was all well used and worn, except for the bolt carrier, which was new. What are the chances of that happening?
At the time, Entreprise Arms was offering L1A1 semi auto upper receivers for $400. I should have bought 2, but the budget allowed only 1.
It took a few months to gather the tools and info to build one. It is a lot harder to build a FAL than an AR. Eventually I built one, literally on my kitchen table.
I had to make a couple of concessions to the assault weapons ban that was in effect. The original flash hider & bayonet mount is still in my junk drawer, replaced with a "sporting" muzzle break. The gun functioned perfectly after the receiver was relieved for clearance around the extractor.
Despite a bunch of rumors & BS, the Entreprise Arms receiver that I got was well made & continues to work without problems.
I don't get to shoot the L1A1 as much as I would like because of the cost of ammo.
I have owned and/or fired all of the noteworthy MBRs from WWII to date and would rate the FAL right at the top of my list.

I have one after quite some time since qualifying on the C1. I also have a Indian "Century Sporter"! Which I could take it to the range the C1! I got hit on the shoulder by the SM for shooting the pointing sticks at Farnham!

Thanks for the interest in my rifle guys. I feel your pain at not being able to own them - especially as I would love a C1A1....
Prices got as low as NZD$250 when the 'grandfathering' scare happened after the Thorpe Report came out....
