A fantastic day for shooting was enjoyed by 40 participants at the first CQB match of the ORA season, April 12/14. The deep snow and icy water of two weeks ago was just a memory on the ranges at Langemark. Considering it was the first match of our season, things ran incredibly smooth. The MD and the shooters didn't miss a beat all day and we were finished up the shooting portion by 12 noon!

It was nice to see some faces from the clinics earlier this year and that those shooters had solved many of the challenges from their earlier experiences. Of course new challenges always come up at these types of matches which only adds to the challenge.

As you can see from the stats below, Ganderite had a particularly good day of shooting from a score perspective, which p
roves my theory that he is a bit of a sandbagger at most of the matches he attends :D. As always, he found time to take and share lots of pictures from the event which are posted below. Thanks for that Ganderite.

One of the first good days of this spring. We are blessed.

My plan of not training all winter paid off. I had beginner's luck and shot well. Twice I dropped a loaded mag on the ground. Brain fart. The second time was in the match, but Hungry passed me one of his loaded mags, so I got away with it.

Excellent weather - great match! Thanks for the Pics Ganderite.

And a big thanks to Tim, Braydon, Dave & Bryan for running the show so that we could shoot and have all the fun!

Next time I might even remember to bring all my equipment - thanks for the loaner Howard!

Good Times

Good to see your young lad out for his first real CQB match thunder ridge. A young mind is a wonderful thing to corrupt:p.
I learned my handloads are more reliable than Norinco ammo. Diamond duck had issues with her ammo (Norinco hard primers) and rifle(needed more bolt lube. Thanks Bolivar for the diagnosis).
As seen in the past, being able to score consistently with the pistol really helps with the score. Gotta practice more at the 25 yard. Actually I just gotta get out and practice with it.

missed having the fun - looks like it was a great day....Well done Ganderite...someone ate his Wheaties!!
Boltgun
See you at a match soon, Bolt? Ganderite was in peak form for the day! Personally I think the newly installed suspension for his chest rig was what did it for him.

Thanks to everyone who came out for an fun and safe day of shooting in great conditions.

Awesome match with perfect weather! Thanks to Tim, Braydon, Dave and Bryan for running a smooth and well organized match.

Thanks to Snafu84 for the pointers and for keeping me safe!

Looking forward to the next match!

Was a fantastic day and great to see everyone again.

It has been a long winter.

It was nice to see some new rifle builds and new kit.

My NEA Barrel and BCG, ran like well oiled machines and I couldn't be happier. They haven't been cleaned since last year. Thoroughly impressed.

What a great community! Thanks for all the range staff: Bolivar, The marauder, Timfoo, and Canadianeh! They did a great job hosting a super fun shoot. We are sure lucky to have a super community. I'm lucky to be surrounded by such funny and supportive shooters. :D

Ganderite: Thanks for the education! I really appreciated working with you, scoring your targets (was I ever in for a learning opportunity). Folks, if you even want an easy target to score, squad yerself up with Ganderite. We just counted the number of booolit holes OUTSIDE the Bull5 rectangle, and deducted the correct number of points. I shoulda got pics of Ganderite's tactical (very tactical) prototype JTF2.25 battle suspenders to show you all what works for this game. Hey, he has the scores to prove it! :)

It truly was great to see all of you after the long winter we've had!

Cheers and keep helping them nooobies.

Tactical suspenders?? No. Marks Work Warehouse suspenders.

I used to carry my pistol on my pants belt, but my pants would fall down. The suspenders solved that problem. Then one day a knowledgeable fellow said that my holster would work better if I had a proper stiff pistol belt, so I got one and put the suspenders on the pistol belt.

My mags are carried on a bib I bought for $17 at KeepShooting.com I use doubled mags, so only needed two pouches, so I switched my pistol mags to the centre position where they are close to the action when reloading.

Having loaded mags hanging around my neck by a single strap was a bit uncomfortable, so I use a 6" piece of bungee cord at the back to connect the back of the mag bib strap down to my pistol belt. This transfers the weight of the bib to my shoulders. Very comfortable now.

My shooting equipment is pretty basic. A Norinco AR-15 topped with a $95 Chinese scope on cheap see-thru rings, and a M&P40 pistol. Both guns are 100% reliable and plenty accurate for this game.

My ammo is down-loaded in power since it does not take much power to punch a hole in paper at 25 yards.

I try to pace my shots so that I use most of the time allotted. I try to aim each shot at the bull. With just a little more care on each shot, one can pick up an extra point on each shot. An extra 75 points can really improve a score.

Can someone point me in the right direction for some more info on this discipline? I checked Ora web sight with not much luck, i would like to star gathering some kit so when my Rpal comes I have some gear all ready. Thanks
