If money is a harsh reality...then the Ruger #1S, with Alex Henry forearm, 26-inch barrel, in some kind of classy cartridge, preferably rimmed.

And I'll have to admit: a bolt gun will never fall into this category for me. They can be stainless/synthetic tools, or they can be quite nicely done up with blue and walnut...but they're just bolt guns. The nicest, shiniest, most powerful, most comfortable, smoothest-running pickup truck in the world...is still a pickup truck.

I concur. When I got engaged to my wife I bought myself the following, after all she gets a ring, I should get a gun. I wanted something to pass down to my children or grandchildren. Ruger No. 1 in .300 H&H
