Thinking of buying a svt40, What's your opinion?

Better sights, better trigger, stainless steel gas cylinder, better balanced, easier to field strip, stronger receiver, stronger gutsy parts, rimless cartridge more suitable for a semi auto, faster to reload, has rotating bolt that offers positive primary extraction, made of better materials.

Anyway, I will send the OP my SVT so he can try it out risk free. If he likes it, he can go and buy one. But if he feels as I do, then at least he won't be stuck with one.

Wow very kind of you! but I already made the move and bought one. I am still waiting for it at Marstar (not shipped yet). I would really like to buy a M1 Garand but i just don't have the money for it ... This is like a dream rifle for me. Maybe some day ill have one!

It WAS issued in clips but not anymore & its not an argument, its a discussion. I am so sick of people on the internet touting the virtues of the garand while ignoring all of its faults and planting the "BEST" flag atop mount milsurp. The garand is a fine rifle but its also heavy, expensive, has handguards just as fragile as an svt 40, shoots expensive ammo that is difficult to find in quantity, has an aperture rear sight just waiting to be snapped off or bent at higher elevation settings, no original adjustment for the gas system, has an annoying tendency to try to chamber fingers, etc, etc.

Good post!
The for the price of the Garand you could buy 2 SVT 40's and a case of surplus ammo for it.

Congrats !!!

You know we will ALL want to see pics !!!

As for the guy disparaging the awesomeness of the SVT-40... don't listen to him and make up your own mind after you've shot and cleaned your rifle a few times.

I've put about 400 rounds through mine since I bought it in December 2013 (4 months ago) and I love it even more and look forward to shooting it again when I go to the cottage this coming Easter wekend !! I'll be posting pics and videos of that next week.

This just in I went to cabela's in wpg yesterday. I seen they had non corrosive MFS sp for $24.99 a box (20 rds). Now you don't have to clean your svt frequently now (nor will you shoot it often at that price!) The whole idea it seems to me is to shoot fun and often. For the $1200 m1 you get svt and over 2500 rds.Thats very attractive, unless you have crates of 30.06 laying around ,anybody know what it cost to reload 30.06 for m1. I'm not knocking squinty just trying to help anybody with an svt decision. The sks really shines for the same reason when compared to the mini 30, you can just buy more cheap ammo, and shoot lots. OP enjoy your new svt or let us know if you have buyers remorse.

Garand ammo was issued in clips. So the only way to be out of clips would be to be out of ammo first. Anyway, I am done arguing about the patently obvious.

I will send the OP my SVT and he can decide for himself. And while he's deciding, I will be shooting other better rifles.

Not patently obvious! Just differing opinions and tastes. Nothing wrong with that because just like every girl has her charms so does every rifle! By the way nice looking rifles you got there.

"non corrosive MFS sp for $24.99 a box (20 rds)"

Yes, I will buy that later this spring once I've put a scope on my Mosin Nagant and have to zero it. Watch out deer !!!

I'm quite fond of the Chinese milsurp stuff I get through SFRC and I indeed "shoot fun and often" !!

Wow, I knew Cabela's could hose you on ammo costs, but that's just retarded over-pricing...

$13.95 for a 20 round box of the MFS soft points. Free shipping if you buy a case of 25 boxes. That works out to roughly $0.70/round for a higly effective hunting round that will take you from Coyotes to Moose and beyond.
