‘Stopped him in his tracks’: Outrage after former pro hockey player kills grizzly

Where we differ is seeing the spouse of a hunting TV show post a hunting photo as being inflammatory. I’d argue it’s expected and he quite simply happens to be a minor celebrity. His father in law runs the largest hunting museum in Canada which is open to the public here in BC.

This thread made me post this picture to Instagram yesterday, hoytcanon took it while we were guiding together. Grand total of two negative comments which quickly were deleted and blocked, out of the ~7500 people that saw it in a day. If I hid on social media like you appear to be suggesting I’d give up a lot of potential hunting clients. Better to show functioning adults hunt than to act like it’s a dirty habit. Kuiu et al have done a service to the hunting community bringing mainstream in a trendy way. I’m appreciating your conversation on this to be clear tone is difficult to detect on the internet.

that is a fantastic picture, and I appreciate seeing both sides of the conversation as well. I know nothing about instagram, but have to assume your audience is slightly different than his.

That would be nice if it was actually the case. But the part about only the pursuits approved by the masses being allowed hasn't been more glaring than in BC, and you above all people are privy to this. When we fear for the future of our sport it is not paranoia, but with a clear view of what is already happening.

I once munched on grizzly pepperoni while watching the grizzlies caged up on top of Grouse Mountain after hiking the Grouse Grind. Among the Asian tourists I whispered to a grizzly that I'm eating your cousin. It tastes the same as black bear if it's had the same diet. The grizzly I ate was a mountain grizz as are all the black bears I have eaten. I'm sure a coastal grizz or an orchard grizz would be different.

Speaking of which I ran into a grizzly sow and three cubs on Monday while hunting elk in WMU 402 in Alberta. My next trip up the same mountain on Wednesday I encountered two timberwolves. Some other hunters shot an elk and saw bighorn sheep... I guess my luck is just so good that I see the rarer animals!
