1 MOA Challenge 2012

Just learning as it go, been shooting a lot of rifles for a long time but i have small knowledge about those events, can you believe i firmly though that it was a 10 shots group in one inch and the last 3 weeks, i've been working like hell to get under one inch at 300 and i did succed, so be it 3.3 inch it is... Thank for the info... JP.

Pretty sure the one in early july 7 or 8 shoud be good since i am gone drive down there on my motorcycle, looking forward for my first official event at 59 years old... JP.

ALL STOP.

Due to circumstances beyond my control the April 29 date has been changed to May 19 (Victoria Day weekend). For some this may be a better date if you need to travel any distance. For others that weekend may be out of the question, sorry but again beyond my control.

So far, all the other dates for Cedar Springs look good. However, when using DND ranges everything has to be max-flex. If you plan to attend another date (or any date at other ranges the ORA uses) please save yourself some headaches and contact the event organizer a day or two ahead of time.

Cheers

I've been interested in doing this for a long long time and have a rifle on it's way too me that I hope to build up for precision shooting. I have a lot to learn and come from a shotgun background so this would be a complete departure for me.

I shoot at TCRC outside of Kitchener and there are some very good shooters out at our range that I have picked up a lot of insight from.

I'm buying a Rem 700 5R Milspec in .308...a good friend has one and it's quite the shooter which is what sold me and I just like the gun a lot. The scope I have for it currently wouldn't be totally ideal but one thing at a time, the scope is VX-3L 4.5 -14 x50mm with a duplex reticle.

I think this is a good base to start from based off of folks I've spoken with at TCRC and what reading and researching I've been doing online. Even if I don't make it out this time around I see a lot of fun to be hand in the long range community and hope to make it out and meet some of you more experienced folks at future events.

It's one helluva drive from Montreal but if a buddy of mine wants to do it I'll make the trip down.
With today's gas prices it'll cost me close to $400.00 in gas alone for a round trip so splitting the cost in 2 would take the sting off.

Bring 3 buddies then the price of gas is only 25% of the cost:D

The funny thing is that I have 3 vehicles and none can fit 4 people with rifle cases comfortably.
I need to put the back seats down to fit the rifle cases in the car if I bring Mustang.
The F-250 is only a regular cab so I'm no further ahead and the CRX is 22 years old and only a 2 seater also.

We could also take my friends Ram 2500 but his driving style is a little more prudent than mine.;)

I am thinking hard on this as well. My rifle is coming along nicely and my shooting...well lets just say I still have a LOT to learn. Off the bench at 100 yards I have no trouble shooting consistently right around 0.5 MOA for 5 shots, sometimes a lot smaller and sometimes a bit bigger. I use a bipod up front and a bag under the rear stock. What are the rules for the bag at the back? Is this allowed or is it free floating? Please advise!

Also, a link to the official target used at this event might be helpful too. I normally shoot at a target that I found on a web site that provides free targets but I am sure it is not the proper target for this event.

The targets used will be full 300 yard DCRA target faces with a 300m wear center.
Bipods and rear bags are allowed under DCRA/ICFRA F/TR rules. All shooting will be done from the prone position (no benches at Cedar Springs)

Thanks for the info, my rifle I think will fall under the open class because it is chambered in 260 Remington, weighs in about 15+lbs scoped, and uses detachable mags. I know I have to load one shot at a time and not use the mag, no problem there.

I will keep practicing and working on my loads and will try to find a date that works to get and have some fun with you guys. Looking forward to it!
