I want to try out a different barrel on my 10/22. I haven't really looked into it yet as .22s have been on the back-burner for me for years.

Currently have a 12.5" ( I think) Dlask barrel.

Any suggestions?

Edit:

This arrived Monday; .920' 16.1” carbon fibre-wrapped barrel for my 10/22. Canadian made by Grey Birch Solutions.

It’s very nicely made and way lighter than the steel 12.5” .920 I had on it before.

I don’t have any fancy .22 ammo so I shot it Monday with CCI MiniMags, Winchester bulk box, Remington Golden Bullets, and some sort of Federal in a plain white box. All was high velocity between 36 and 40 gr. and copper plated. Today I scrounged up a box of Eley standard velocity to try out.

I got the best results Monday with the CCI and Federal. The Winchester was okay and results might have been due to me, while the Remington wasn’t great. The Eley shot really nice.

Rifle has a stock trigger and I had an old Bushnell 2-7x on it.

The CCI and Federal were around 1/2” at 25m and the Eley was better. I’m quite happy with the results, especially since I'm really not much good at "precision" shooting. I can see this leading down a whole new shooting rabbit hole.

Any suggestions on where to get a better trigger?

I have a 16" volquartsen barrel with a match chamber in my 10/22. The gun shoots unreal. Only downside is that with a match chamber the chamber needs to be kept super clean or it doesn't eject well. Every hundred rounds or so I swab it with lighter fluid and am good to go.

Kidd lightweight. Super light and extremely accurate.

I should add- I had a McGowan prior and it’s half the barrel the Kidd is.

I have a Kidd 20” stainless with match chamber and it’s unbelievably accurate. It has never failed to extract and I only do a cleaning around 500 rounds or slightly more. CCI stingers should not be fired in any 10/22 platform gun!!

I have a kidd volquartsen magnum research and a tacsol
Best for me would be
1 Kidd
2 magnum research
3 VQ
4 Tacsol

I’m a huge fan of the magnum research but The Kidd lightweight is nicer . Oh also have a wistlepig barrel in 17hmr can’t really complain about it but don’t exactly love it . Just the only option at the time

Hi, I'm in Winnipeg. Where were you able to purchase barrel and did you do install yourself? Was headspacing a concern? This is in response to the Green Mountain 28" barrel.

If you already have a Dlask, the next logical step is a Kidd, if your current barrel is 12.5", try a 16" barrel for your new one.

Tried a 16" McGowan barrel and did not find it more accurate than the factory.
It has a Bentz chamber so I tried it in Speed Steel so over the course of 180+ rounds at a rapid rate, there were a couple FTE.
After winning a Dlask 18"+ 0.920 I have switched to a laminate stock. Accuracy is 0.62 for 5-shots at 50 m., and 1.61 for 5-shots at 100 m.
No FTF or FTE. Less than 100 rounds so will have a better idea when up around 300.

Sorry to hear about the FTE's... 2 chamber options are possible. Most shooters requested barrels for LR PRS type games so a tighter chamber would be speced. SK and lapua ammo run through this chamber without any fuss and accuracy with the match ammo has been excellent... all the way to 400yds.

But it might be tight for bulk US HV types... and with an overly tight fit, accuracy can be lessened. Definitely feeding and ejecting can be affected.

For those wanting to run only bulk HV ammo, I can offer a larger 'sporter' chamber. This will swallow pretty much any bulk ammo.... shoot that stuff well BUT will not be ideal for the match ammo.

So it is just a matter of picking the spec to suit the goals and ammo. With rimfire, there is no one spec for everything.

The barrel is held in place by tightening two allen head screws which secure a barrel block which is located between the barrel & receiver. The only tricky part to the installation is ensuring that the extractor is centered in it's recess in the barrel. Headspace is not an issue as this is preset by the depth of the cutout for the head of the cartridge in the face of the bolt.
