Oy, a 10-22 build. Where to begin.
The CST last round bolt hold open is fantastic. They can be made to work with a kid trigger. You need to purchase their bolt, and the mechanism that sits in the trigger group to catch the bolt. The bolt has a hole on the bottom to catch the trigger mechanism and hold the bolt, when the magazine is empty. Works great with stock mags.
I've tried WAY to many receivers over the years, as I was building quite a few different ones over the years. Best was always the kidd triggers, but I did not try the VQ triggers in all that time either, so can't comment on them.
If you can still find a Dlask receiver, I'd start there. Another nice one is the Tacsol X ring ones. Love the dual spring, and the option to move the bolt handle to the left side. This left hand handle makes things WAY nicer to use. The VQ competition bolts are hard to come by now, but one of the best out there as well. I liked the center fire pin design, plus the bolt just slid nicely in the receivers with the DLC coating. The early Grey Birch bolts were pretty comparable, but again now that they are in the US, parts up here are hard to find. Their stocks were nice as well as the carbon barrels.
VQ makes some nice receivers as well.
If you want light barrels you will be looking for the VQ or Kidd carbon. Also an outfit out of the US, #####h Armory to get different parts as well. The adjustable V blocks are a nice touch. Summit precision, or Taccom parts.
The tandem cross parts are intriguing as well. Never did get a 10/22 put together with their parts, but always wanted to.
I have run the Taccom Ultra lite weight stocks, or the Crazy Ivan stocks when it was easier to order out of the US. That Crazy Ivan stock was awesome, and probably should have kept it. Currently run the adaptive tactical one on my takedown. I find the adjustable but stock fits nicely for the kids when they want to use it, and the bonus of running to spare mags in quick access is great for my chicken gun.
Was putting together rifles with 16" barrels running in the 3 lb range before optics back in the day when things were easier to order out of the US.
For nice budget ready to shoot rifles, the magnum research rifles are nice as well.
The carbon Dlask barrels I used ALWAYS shot nice, and to bad you can't get those anymore. The VQ are comparable, and I'm sure the Kidd lites are as well. Faxon, Tacsol I couldn't get to shoot awesome on the ones I tried. Nine35 carries the green mountain barrels as an option if weight is not a concern. Dlask used GM to make their barrels.
Good luck on the build, and let keep us posted with pictures!
