Good day all.
I’m am starting to make a wish list for 10/22 parts to build platform over the winter.
I understand that products from “kid” are a great choice.
Not sure about the ruger stuff, I have never owned one.
I have several 22lr semis (savage) but the trigger feels like junk, they shoot decent but the trigger is going to drive me bananas. I know what a good semi should feel like. I several semi centerfire platforms with outstanding triggers.
That’s what brings me to the ruger build.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

What are you going to be using it for? What is your budget?

B-P, Have you 'worked on' your Savage Rimfires to improve the triggers ? I have a 64 and a B-22-FV that both have ca 1# triggers and are very good IMO. And 1000G w/d paper is your friend, to polish ALL friction surfaces.
Savage Accu-Trigger Blade Springs.jpg Sav B22 T-spring Heated-OEM on Left Varmint-Right.jpg
The Black Twisted spring on the left of Pic 2 is after 'Heating' with a lighter to 'near red hot' and cooling Slowly. These are the
T-springs for the A & B-22. My 64 just needed the sear spring replaced with the MCarbo one and the T-return spring with ca 1/3 bic spring, stretched to fit. The Accu-Blade spring can be replaced with a partial Bic spring, too.
Also, here is a PDF from another forum RE Savage trigger mods.

Thank you guys very interesting. I have modded my Savage a 17 trigger for the pull weight . I didn’t know you could mod out for the blade. Personally my blade has more tension than the actual trigger itself. when you #### the rifle and allow it to reengage slowly to reset this metal blade doesn’t completely go all the way out with the trigger and then it’s light as heck.

My personal experience with KIDD was disappointing.
A rounded over firing pin after less than 1000 rounds on what was supposed to be the gold standard for bolts. No warranty options in Canada really.

I am starting to lean toward SBI more and more.

I wud start with a SBI bolt and receiver if i was starting over, everything else is highly dependent on intended use.

for a superlight build, the TK barrels (Spitfire or comet) are crazy cool and the magpul base level stock is made of helium.

That would be a sweet ultralight build.

A few random suggestions based on my recent 10/22 fiddling.

From what I've read in here and other forums, the receiver isn't usually a big factor in reliability or accuracy. But if you're doing a ground up build and buying a receiver, I suggest SBI. It's nice to buy Canadian if we can. You can get their regular style receiver, or the one that has an AR style charging handle. I have the regular one.

I started with a stock Ruger years ago and the only improvements I made at first were a firing pin and extractor replacement (I think they were Volquartsen) and the auto bolt release. The firing pin and extractor seemed to help reliability. It wasn't bad before, but with those I basically never have an issue that isn't because of ammo. Good primer strikes and extraction every time.

I've had a Ruger BX replacement trigger for a few years and it was better than factory, but I'm currently waiting on a Kidd trigger parts kit to upgrade that. I had to order through an importer.

I second the SBI suggestion. Their bolt, receivers and chassis are awesome. Haven't tried their barrels before so can't comment on that... but they make quality stuff and have good customer service.

I have 2 different builds with the ST-22 (AR style charging handle) and love them.

I just got a Magpul MOE stock for my 10/22, makes it feel like a feather lol

Huge factor on 10/22 accuracy is recievers fit in the stock like crap and can rock because the single bolt mounting. I found to help reliability was get a VQ claw extractor.

Definitely recommend the Kidd trigger (I went single stage), CST kit for LRBHO was something I wanted too.

For receiver I went with SBI with top (AR15 style) charging handle.

Barrel was Volquartsen Carbon Fiber 13" from memory.

For chassis I picked up a 3D printed unit from someone on here (BeerBaron IIRC, he prints them and sells them in the EE) and quite frankly it is phenomenal value for money. I really like that chassis, kudos to that guy!

Thank you all. This is great information.
My goal for it is a 25 to 100 m. Steel and such.
I have a very accurate bolt 22, and would like a fun closer range.
Not a fan of AR stocks for this platform unless there are some with long hand guard. I have held some of these minimalist stocks at the range and they are not for me.
I forget and my left arm tries a C hold and grabs barrel. lol. I never learn, old habits.
Thanks again I am investigating options and your advice is appreciated

That is basically what I build my 10/22 for.

I wanted it light and compact with a full wrap around hand guard (as thats what I prefer / am used to and this gun is for IPSC mini rifle duty). I feel the same that for me the barrel with sleeve or whatever didn't seem right.

I actually have a Jager on order (since May.... Long story) and it has a 10" hand guard which works well with 13" barrel but the 3D printed version is very similar and I actually think I may prefer it in the end (might end up doing two builds).

The Jager wont accommodate the extended picatinney rail that is common on most aftermarket receivers so your options are:

1) Buy a receiver without the extended portion (I am not even sure if any aftermarket receiver is offered this way but I know the standard 10/22 is like this)

2) Have the extended part of the picatinney rail that is an issue machined off

3) Modify the Jager chassis to make room for the extended picatinney rail

This is the case with a lot of the chassis options with wrap around hand guards. The 3D printed chassis from BeerBaron does accommodate this without modification, I will try to grab a picture today and post later to show what I am referring to.

I found chassis with full wrap hand guards were quite limited, I initially was going to pick up a Taccom ULW chassis (really light - delrin body with carbon fibre hand guard) and the one I found was an enclosed hand guard. When it showed up it was a half round hand guard and after some back and forwards (Taccom were not the most helpful company I have even dealt with) I found out they don't make the full wrap around version any more so I cancelled the order and returned it (that was going to be a 16" barrel as the hand guard is quite a bit longer).

Oy, a 10-22 build. Where to begin.

The CST last round bolt hold open is fantastic. They can be made to work with a kid trigger. You need to purchase their bolt, and the mechanism that sits in the trigger group to catch the bolt. The bolt has a hole on the bottom to catch the trigger mechanism and hold the bolt, when the magazine is empty. Works great with stock mags.

I've tried WAY to many receivers over the years, as I was building quite a few different ones over the years. Best was always the kidd triggers, but I did not try the VQ triggers in all that time either, so can't comment on them.

If you can still find a Dlask receiver, I'd start there. Another nice one is the Tacsol X ring ones. Love the dual spring, and the option to move the bolt handle to the left side. This left hand handle makes things WAY nicer to use. The VQ competition bolts are hard to come by now, but one of the best out there as well. I liked the center fire pin design, plus the bolt just slid nicely in the receivers with the DLC coating. The early Grey Birch bolts were pretty comparable, but again now that they are in the US, parts up here are hard to find. Their stocks were nice as well as the carbon barrels.

VQ makes some nice receivers as well.

If you want light barrels you will be looking for the VQ or Kidd carbon. Also an outfit out of the US, #####h Armory to get different parts as well. The adjustable V blocks are a nice touch. Summit precision, or Taccom parts.

The tandem cross parts are intriguing as well. Never did get a 10/22 put together with their parts, but always wanted to.

I have run the Taccom Ultra lite weight stocks, or the Crazy Ivan stocks when it was easier to order out of the US. That Crazy Ivan stock was awesome, and probably should have kept it. Currently run the adaptive tactical one on my takedown. I find the adjustable but stock fits nicely for the kids when they want to use it, and the bonus of running to spare mags in quick access is great for my chicken gun.

Was putting together rifles with 16" barrels running in the 3 lb range before optics back in the day when things were easier to order out of the US.

For nice budget ready to shoot rifles, the magnum research rifles are nice as well.

The carbon Dlask barrels I used ALWAYS shot nice, and to bad you can't get those anymore. The VQ are comparable, and I'm sure the Kidd lites are as well. Faxon, Tacsol I couldn't get to shoot awesome on the ones I tried. Nine35 carries the green mountain barrels as an option if weight is not a concern. Dlask used GM to make their barrels.

Good luck on the build, and let keep us posted with pictures!

Here are the pictures, note the cut for the diving board picatinney rail.

I weighed this at just over 4lbs today.

just checked SBI website and it directed me to mag dump but the receiver with the rear CH isn’t listed.
Is there anywhere else to buy this
