Howdy, I have gotten the itch for a 10/22 build. IPSC mini rifle seems to be gaining popularity mostly thanks to our ban happy Liberal overlords.

Starting to figure out what a potential build would look like (receiver / trigger / magazines / barrel etc etc) and it seems there are limited options with an enclosed forend (which I prefer after shooting long guns with a C type hold for many years).

Have only found the Midwest Industries version which CSC sells (has a 13" enclosed forend and adjustable stock) which looks a LOT like the 9mm Ruger PCC chassis. Has anyone used one of these? I am curious how you find it to use? Is it easy to remove the action and barrel (which you pretty much need to for proper cleaning) and how easy is it to change mags?

Thinking out loud another option could be the KRG Bravo chassis with enclosed forend (I have one on another rifle) but it doesn't have an adjustable stock. I do like the KRG but I am unsure if it would be a good fit for the 10/22.

I should mention I see other options (ATI / Promag Archangel / Promag AR15 conversion etc etc) wont work as I plan to get a receiver with a built in picatinney rail.

Are there any others I should look at? Kinda feel like the Midwest Industries is the best bet thus far and *should* work with the barrel length etc I am planning (13"). I am curious to hear from anyone that has or used one of these to see if this is accurate:

I understand it is right there in black and white but sometimes companies put out blanket statements like that and they aren't 100% accurate or can be overcome with minor fitting. If it really wont accept triggers for some reason (cant see how or why that would be) then its a no go.

I am also open to hearing about other 10/22 options with enclosed forend that can accept a receiver with picatinney rail.

Thanks in advance.

Have the 8" handguard version - really like it. 3 screws to remove action and barrel.

Had to modify the handguard to work with Dlask receiver.

I bought a Volquartsen TG200 trigger for for this chassis and it did not fit, would have taken considerable modification. Had to buy a Ruger Bx.

As good as the 10/22 is, it is not the ideal platform for mini rifle competition. The 10 round magazines are a limiting factor and the adapter for the 597 mags have been know to be troublesome. Just something you may want to take into account before building something for mini rifle competition

Agreed, 10 round mags are not ideal but with these magazines it is very reliable which is probably the most important thing when it comes to competition IMO.

If not a 10/22 what are the alternatives? A quick skim of the other threads in Rimfire and it is clear that some of the Turkish offerings (which is the only real alternative that I know about) are patchy on the reliability front.

And then there is the aftermarket support, there is a bunch of good gear available for 10/22s but not so much for any other offerings I have come across.

I am genuinely open to other platforms though if I have missed something.

This is my fear, I have my heart set on a Kidd trigger and if it wont work with this chassis that is an issue.

Can I ask what exactly is the issue? And how is the Ruger BX trigger (in case I have to compromise)?

3 Screws to remove the barrel and action is exactly what I am after.

There’s the Nordic chassis, which is basically the same as the SR 22 chassis, not sure if it’s still available, but if so it’s a great chassis.
This was a minute or go .
Nordic chassis, sandblasted and cerecoted silver, tacsol aluminum barrel (silver)

I've run the savage 64 precision with the 20 round magazine. ate anything I fed it but the reloads are a bit tricky as the mag well is faily narrow. I now run a Derya TM22 with the 25 round magazine. My buddy has the same gun and had not feed issues or failure to extract issues. with his. Mine I found tht it doesn like the poly coated CCI standard ammo. I think once the barrel warms up the poly coating on the CCI's sticks causing it not to seat properly in the chamber causing Fail to fire issues. I run out of season to shoot anymore matches to try different ammo, but All my buddies running the TM22 have not had any issues with them.

The TM22 might be an OK option if it is reliable. The Adler looks like a great fit but reliability seems not so good going other threads on here.

I ran a full size NR PCC and really liked it. Then I shot a smaller much more compact PCC and it was great too. For IPSC type games more compact isn't a bad thing.

Shame about the CCI standard as I have a ton. But I also have a ton of Federal (which I dont think is poly coated).

I did some more digging and if a complete Kidd trigger group wont fit I could install these parts to the stock trigger housing which will work in the Midwest Industries stock:

Question - to remove the barrel and action can the hand guard stay on?

Ie, you remove the 3 screws and then the barrelled action can be moved backwards until it is out of the enclosed hand guard?

The back end of the trigger housing would not fit - trying was just dinging up the aluminum housing.

No complaints with the BX trigger I have enjoyed it - because the TG200 didn't fit the only logical thing to do is build a second rifle for it. Which I am working on with this chassis.

Just be aware that the MI chassis will require some modification (dremmel/grinder) if you plan to use an aftermarket receiver with an integral pic rail that runs long on the front of the receiver - eg. SBI, Dlask etc.
Dlask also offers a flat top receiver without a pic rail to get around this, or you could use an OEM or other receiver without an integral rail, then just use a rail that runs flush to front of receiver.
Alternatively, a little wizz to the rear/top of the MI Handguard and you can fit any old receiver up in there..

Yup, as a fellow gun owner that is the only logical thing you can do! :D

Appreciate the info on triggers. Bit of a minefield as to what works with what it seems, definitely not like AR15 lego guns.

Good to know.

The more I look into the MI chassis the more issues I come across (seems it is fussy on trigger packs, wasn't aware of the Pic rail issue but will check to see if that will work, left side charging handle is a problem etc etc).

Starting to wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze but I do like enclosed hand guards and it seems options for this platform with those are limited.

The mdt lss gen 3 chassis may be an option for you as well. They just released it so I have no experience with it but sure looks like a nice chassis for the 10/22.
Here's a couple screenshots from their website:

You can just buy the kidd trigger parts or Volquartsen trigger parts (CSC Is where I got mine) and plunk them in the ruger housing. Gave me an awesome trigger that fits everything.... also, take a look at the Jager chassis system. Its a bit lighter than the Midwest version and available from a non-sponsor retailer
