Brand new 10/22 here.. absolutely hates blunt hollow point ammo such as Winchester Power point, the bulk 555 or Browning style bullets.
Tried different magazines and all still FTF.
Common problem or is there a mod to address this ?

Federal bulk and CCI Mini mags feed fine, it's only with the SWC style I have this issue.

Find the Ammo that works and stick with it. Don’t get hung up that some hollow points, cheap and bulk doesn’t work because we all have that issue. Mine likes CCI mini magnum so I stick to that.

I concluded years ago already that Winchester .22 ammo and semiautos just don't mix. CCI or Remington usually "just work". Hopefully you have a bolt or lever or something to use the Winchester in?

Yeah I guess the ol' Cooey now has a lifetime of Winchester ammo designated just for it ! LOL
CCI mini mag is my go to for hunting anyway... but not so much for just plinking tin cans.

Remington Thunderbolts and BX magazines did the trick and is the first thing I toss to someone having FTF/Double Feeds at the range. A big smile usually comes with the empty mag.

.22s are picky on ammo doesn't matter what you are shooting find a ammo that it works with and stick to it. I had a Cooey 600 that loved cheap ammo I found some Eley match ammo on sale and tried a box in it, it hated it. Failures to feed almost every round.
I run my 10/22 on CCI standered although it's less fun because my local range wount let you use the fun magazines in them. I tried Winchester 555 in it jammed at least once every mag just not worth the hassle.

I had a new 1022 mag came with the gun . that the bullet tip would dead stop against the feed lips in the mag . I solved the issue by slightly changing the angle on the feed ramp with a chain saw file . but yeah solid round nose will run more reliable in a 1022 .

Mine shoots most everything, sometimes the cheaper ammo will have duds. Winchester super speed HP, CCI mini mag, M22, Rem Golden bullets all shoot decent.

shoot some expensive stingers to break it in, then try your cheap bulk ammo again, worked for me

Except this isn't a break in/cycling issue, it's a problem with feeding. The Winchester HP's jam into the breach face virtually every time, where as anything rounder feeds just fine.
Not really a big deal as I said since the CCI's are my hunting round anyway... just seeing if there was a "fix" out there so I could use up the bulk boxes of 555 that I have.

Hmmm. I absolutely hate the 10/22. It’s my least favourite firearm. However, I bought a new production stainless one just a few months ago and it shot and cycled the cheapest crap ammo just fine. Worked fine with that Winchester stuff you’re trying to use.

Then again, before shooting I did a full disassembly and degreased the factory packing grease which was embedded in everything and applied some good synthetic grease to the important bits.

Oh, it made a pattern on paper like a shotgun and the front sight couldn’t be removed without a dremmel tool but it had NO issues with feeding that cheap ammo or any other.

If it’s slamming the rounds are slamming into the breach face, there is some issue there. After a thorough degreasing and lubrication, I would try a different magazine since it controls the angle of the round being fed. I don’t have a 10/22 anymore to look but I’m fairly sure the round should in no way be hitting the breach face.

I had some loose screws on my SR-10/22 after I tightened them I had no issues, so it might have been more this than breaking it in with stingers. Maybe ensuring everything is tight on your 10/22.

Mine doesn’t feed 555 Win. I don’t shoot 555 Win in that rifle. Mine performs great even as a stock Ruger rifle, but it cost more, being the competition model. If you build one from parts it will cost the same. If you buy a base model F150 there are many things to find fault with. I have handled and shot several of the cheap semis from other manufacturers. They may work, but they feel like as fulfilling as making love to a middle aged escort at the end of her/his shift. Ir all depends what you value. My gun tastes have evolved as I spent more time using them. Spending a little more for mid level quality models or brands and having less volume of cheap #### in the safe pleases me a bit.

Huh,
My first gun was a 10/22 and that thing was a real piece of ####.
I also first used bulk Winchester, and every single shot it would fail to feed.
CCI Mini mags worked, *sometimes*, but would still jam very frequently....like once every ten shots atleast.
I got rid of that piece of ####, and bought a new Ruger 10/22. No issues at all with the new rifle, feeds perfectly on the 2-3 different bulk .22LR I've fed it no problem, which has me wondering about Ruger's quality control....

I bought my first 10-22 in Saskatoon in the store that eventually became Wholesale Sports - less than $200, and I was reading on rec.guns how folks south of the border were complaining that a 10-22 was starting to get too expensive at $100 US.

Anyway - that thing took Winchester subsonic hollowpoints made in Australia and killed LOTS of rabbits and possums in New Zealand. Of course, now it's a prohibited weapon in that little country because stupid politicians.
