Is it worth the $300 for a heavy barrel on my 10/22 ? Find a increase in accuracy?

not after the run around ammo and what kinda shooting talk just a yes or no.

My opinion - yes, it is worth the money no matter what particular make or model we are talking about. All my 22s are finally heavy barreled ones, thin barrel were just phased out gradually over the time. They may shoot accurately if that is right and this is good and blah blah - get heavy barrel and be happy.

GM barrel for around 200.00 worked for me... I say yes..

Also had a 400.00 Butler Creek barrel that shot EXCELLENT... but it was a little on the expensive side, I wouldnt pay that much for a barrel again after seeing what the GM is capable of.

Yes, but I'd keep it on the lighter side of the heavy barrels, like a 16" GM, Tac-sol, whistle pig, or go nuts and get a VQ carbon fiber.

Well I wouldn't go that way..... a 20" BC non-fluted barrel on that stock would be just about usless for anything but benchrest shooting. Accurate but really front heavy.

I paid $179 (less than 2 months ago) for a 16" fluted Green Moutain barrel that is VERY accurate (under 1" @ 75 yrds). And you can find "plastic" stocks for under $100 just about anywhere. So it keeps it in the same price point you are talking about.

In short I guess I am saying Yes to your question.

Cheers!

Its a hit or miss with the Butler Creek barrels. In my opinion, no it's not worth it.

What is worth you spending your hard earn cash on, is a Green Mountian barrel. A lighter 16" barrel if you plan on hunting with it, but 18" looks nicer (proportional) to my eye. After that... the biggest accuracy upgrade would be using quality ammo.

I like the 17 mach 2 conversions you can do with a 10/22 by simply putting on a heavy barrel for such purpose, but as to functionality with a .22RF, save your money.

I've built a couple of heavy barrel 10/22s over the years and just ended up selling them because they were too heavy and unbalanced to do anything except plunk them on a bench and shoot groups. Even after spending upwards of $1K on top of the base gun, they still wouldn't shoot any better than my CZ452 with a trigger job. I didn't own one for a number of years, and recently picked up a 10/22 Deluxe that had a GM 20" sporter barrel on it. Installed some VQ trigger parts, a compact scope in some Talley LW mounts, and now I actually have a 10/22 that shoots well enough and isn't a pig to carry. May not be tacticool, but is does everything that I need a .22 semi to do. YMMV.
