Hi folks, my friend bought a brand new 10/22 and 2 brand new Butler creek steel lip 25 rds mag.
We go to the range last weekend to try his rifle. We had a couple FTE but I don’t really care since I can install a better extractor in his rifle. We had a couple misfire (I mean NO indentation on the primer) but maybe it’s because we only clean the barrel before shooting, not the action.
But the real problem is FTF especially with the BC mags. The rounds often bend and/or do not eject correctly while a new round go the chamber. One out of ten and maybe more. We check the mag and they fit REALLY lose in the mag well. I mean we can move back and forth at least 1/8’’ maybe more.
I put those mags in my 20 years old ruger and they also had play but a little less. I shoot them and I had also FTF like the new 10/22.
We try the original ruger new mag in his rifle and it was a lot better but less than perfect.
So, I put one of my old 10 rounds mag in his rifle and the mag had a lot less play. Also, he try one of my 20 years old, 30 rounds plastic lip mag and he had absolutely no FTF and the mag was rock solid in the rifle. See the videos.

I also must say that we try 5 different brand of ammo with the same result, so, it’s not the ammo!
So, what do you think guys? Is it a mag problem, a rifle out of spec or maybe the two?? It’s my thinking that the rifle seem out of spec and even the mag. Did you ever experience this?
It’s his first rifle and he was totally angry about the performance, considering that my old rifle performed really well. We don’t know what to do. I’m not really bad about little tuning a gun but in this case…..
I hope I’m clear because English is not my first language
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks
*As a side note, we had A LOT of fun with his also new, Ruger Scout Rifle!! So, he doesn’t hate Ruger, just the 10/22….
