On all guns, always, ALWAYS, relieve the springs for storage, otherwise they take a "set".

Springs are worn out by cyclic loads (i.e. being repeatedly compressed and released), not by remaining in a compressed state.
Almost any sort of gun spring is always under load to some extent when it is installed in the gun, regardless of its state.
