10/22 Trigger

It's not clear from the thread but can anyone confirm if KIDD actually ships to Canada. Their 2 stage seems to be the near the top of the pile, but what weight would people recommend for "f-class" (shooting off a bipod at 100m) or BR I'm leaning towards the 8oz/8oz or 12oz/12oz?

I'll second the recommendation for Brimstone's teir 2 job http://www.brimstonegunsmithing.com/ruger-1022-trigger-work/

Choose between two trigger widths, in 5 available colours, and at the pull weight you desire. He also does the auto bolt release mod, unless you don't want it done, and will install other parts he has availble for purchase. A good deal.

What about shipping back to Canada from the US? Do you have to get a US export permit and the rest of the related paperwork?

Any recommendations on pull weight..... 2.5 seems standard for most of these but I am open to your expert ideas.

Depends on what you plan to do with it. For field use and carrying I wouldn't go much lighter than about 2lb, for more serious target work it can be much lighter.

For serious target work like rimfire "F class" or BR I would go with the 8oz/8oz version.

Some like the auto bolt release (ME) and some do not... it allows you to release the held open bolt by pulling the charging handle back slightly... but if you use a cleaning rod from the muzzle and bump the bolt with the rod, it will slam shut on you (irratating). As for the trigger, I would recommend that you go with the full width trigger... it has a really nice feel and gives a clean break with out nay "catching" on finger creases etc... David does an amazing job on 10/22 trigger groups. The Tier 2 job is probably the best bang for your buck... but for $99 the "Canadian Special" on his Tier 1 job will get you an "exceptional" trigger, because David gives it very special attention.

Could you tell me what the difference is between the tier 2 and the canadian special? I didnt see that on the website...

The "Canadian Special" is just the $99 price for the tier 1 service for Canadians...

from the site
"What the Tier 1 gets you is an adjustable sear... allows us to eliminate the slack from your group, so that when you touch the trigger, everything is already locked up...This is known as a 'single stage' trigger, versus the two stage triggers with some slack before the break."

Nope, since the work falls under $100 US, the licenced exporter (Brimstone) is exempt from the requirement for an export permit. Basically he ships it to you direct, and that's that. Drop it in and enjoy the trigger bliss. :)

VQ hammer alone brings you to a 2-2.5lbs pull.

Hi Guys: I posted the following way back in 2009, At that time I got a couple of those hammers and also extractor and they have worked great, I am not sure if price or shipping to Canada has changed. But no question best bang for your buck

Here is the link for 10/22 parts, They shipped to me in Canada, no problem and yes so very correct on Volquartsen exact edge extractor, part number VC10EE/VC2EE , this and the target hammer number VC10TH makes a world of difference, no more jams and about a 2 1/2 trigger pull. I love the 10/22
total cost $45.00 US http://www.rimfiresports.com/

Rimfire Sports stopped shipping to Canada last year. They were a great supplier to deal with and it is a great loss to not have them deal with us anymore.

Regarding Brimstone... My TG's were the first Canadian groups that David did... Over the course of many emails we walked through the export laws and came up with the Canadian special (Tier 1 service for $99), in order to allow Brimstone to export your group back to Canada... This deal is not on the website... Just request it when you contact David. Tell him Greg sent you ;-).
