In the process of seeking level three approval for fall 3 gun match and someone mentioned the fact that legal 10 rd mags were now avialalbe.Checked the threads concerning these mags and as it will definatly affect the rules for 3 gun decided to call ottawa for clarification,There response is that the 10 rd mags are only legal in the RRA pistol and any one using the in any full size AR rifle would be subject for arrest for high cap mags. This will definetly be clarified in the the future but before we all buy new mags maybe we should wait for written letter from ottawa .

It has been clarified...

An inquirey was made to the Firearms Centre...they can not be used in full size AR Rifles...

What ?
i thought the mag itself is a regulated piece of equipement, not the firearm in which you put it in ...
This 10 rd mag is designed and stamped for use in "pistol" ARs.
However, just like Glock mags. This doesn't prevent using glock mags in Olympic Arms GL9/GL40 rifles. This is perfectly legal.

...I see from some of the other threads that these are becoming a popular item...since this would go far beyond IPSC Ontario...I'm going to ask NROI Canada to track down the ruling...and we will post the results. I have no issue with the concept...but my current understanding is that they are not legal in anything but the RRA AR15 "pistol"

More to come

I'm trying not to apply any logic :bangHead:

I've heard that they are allowed...and credible informaton that they are not...

I'm not trying to start anything up...but before an entire heard of people show up at our next 3 Gun with 10 rounders in tow...enquiring minds want to know.

I read the letter that Mark posted on his site...and it seem reasonable. This could be case of "differing opinions" within RCMP/CFC.

The general undestanding is that they are indeed legal in ALL AR type firearms.
Exactlly like the situation using Beretta pistol mags, but not CX4! mags, in your Storm...
Otherwise, why would anyone bother to buy a bunch of mags for a firearm(AR pistol) that very few of us own?

Well I think I need something more definitive then that (not much of a defence if you are wrong)

should be very intresting if it flys, but like most thing like this that have come up in the past, its a loophole and i,m sure it will get closed really fast, when we all start makeing a fuss about it.

No where in that document does it refer to rifles, just the LAR-15 Pistol. :(

Hmmm...I see the "rifle" part. Check with Mark. Maybe he has another document besides the above one that says the mags are OK in all AR rifles?

It does not need to mention rifles. The magazines have been determined to be pistol magazines. The law states that pistol magazines are restricted to 10rds. It matters not what they are used in.
Perhaps those that are suggesting it is illegal could provide a reference.

Just trying to help! :)

The quote above is correct. The law specifies the magazine, not the magazines use. Armedsask is quite well versed on the subject, although he may be quite anoyed to reiterate it for the nth time on CGN. Anyway, I've ordered some from Questar - but then again, I have a Bushmaster Pistol too! Good luck!

As specifically stated in the CFC web site..

http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/bulletins/businesses/bulletin-55_e.asp

"The classification of a firearm magazine depends on the type of firearm the magazine was designed to be used in, not the type of firearm it is actually used in. "

"As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, the classification of a magazine depends on the type of firearm a magazine was designed to be used in, not the type of firearm it is actually used in.
"

This is exactly the same as was decided for the Storm.

Instead of ####ting all over Marks hardwork, could the people who are saying this is illegal provide some references or text to suggest otherwise?
