10 Round Magazines

decision on the 30/10 however, the cost to try to over-turn such a decision is simply prohibitive... and at the end of the day, as a shooter, the ability to have a 10 round magazine was more important than the "look" of the 10 round magazine that was finally approved.

Couldn't someone just make an injection-molded floorplate that extended the length of it? Personally I couldn't give a rat's ass but I'm sure there's some money in that idea.

Nope, this is why mag binders are legal. It's still two separate magazines, even if the modification is somewhat permanent. I have an idea to rivet two floor plates together with a metal spacer in between when I get around to ordering some of those LAR mags.

"somewhat" is not permanent, something designed to be a temporary clamp isn't the same as putting them together in some sort of permanent fashion. I'm sure I remember some thread on here from ages ago where someone ran it past RCMP and they said no.

Looks

We submitted a 30/10 design to RCMP as one of our first prototypes and it was rejected. It was only later, after several design submissions, that the 10 round magazine we now have was given RCMP classification approval.

I personally did not agree with the original decision on the 30/10 however, the cost to try to over-turn such a decision is simply prohibitive... and at the end of the day, as a shooter, the ability to have a 10 round magazine was more important than the "look" of the 10 round magazine that was finally approved.

I can give you the look and more than 10 rds. Just go down to " Lar-15 mag couplers." It tool me some time to get it going. You can purchase these couplers at Reliable gun in Vancouver or www.blueline-activities.com

Now someone needs to make a LAR-15 in .458 SOCOM, and a 10 rnd magazine for the pistol. The 30 rnd appearance, with the legal 10 round capacity. Then someone needs to get Magpul to make them. And sell them in Canada for $20-25cnd. Then we can all have fun with our black rifles, and the importer gets to make bucks.
I can tell the RCMP would love this idea. They would totally accept that just because your cartridge is really big, you should still be able to have fun with it. And the firearm (and this cartridge) of design and manufacture is the important part after all right.

To skirt around M14 5 round restriction, someone need to design a .308 pistol that just so happens to use M14 mags, so you can quasi-legally have 10 round .308 pistol mags.

I agree. It would allow you to train with a simulated full size mag.
The actual mag is the lar-15 but with a plastic extension simulating the length and feel of a 30 round mag.

So when you/we go down to the US for competition we are ready to compete.

Simple = Brilliant

Hi guys,

So ... I don't know why ... I sat out on the front deck and tried the simple "tape the two LAR mags bottom-to-bottom" experiment. Always wondered about that ...

Went slow. Some strategically-placed taped-in thin cardboard wedges ... lots of quality 3M duct-tape ... later (tomorrow) some flat-black stove paint ... not bad so far...

But the "bottom end" of the arrangement (feeding lips and ammo on the inverted magazine) was obviously subject to dirt and prangs and abuse ... as many have noted ... and looked goofy.

Hmmm ... inspiration ... go to the medicine cabinet and look around ... take out my value-sized translucent Arm & Hammer deodorant cap ... remove peel-off sticker ... boil for a few minutes to soften it for a while ... like you would a plastic hockey mouth-guard ...

Custom friction-fit!!! Pops-off-easily with a mild-tug ... protects (ahem) delicate parts ... easily replaceable (and you'll smell even better) ... paint it black or tape-over.

Damn ... I am smart.

Yes, and genuine kudos to your initiative.

But you have to like my effective and cheap and low-tech (interim) suggestion for tidying-up (my mum's expression) the vulnerable bottom-end of the unit.

Hmmm ...

How about I strip off all the duct-tape "bonding" on my magazines (Steve Smith please forgive me) and then I send you an Arm & Hammer value-sized deodorant-cap ... and then you send me an exquisitely-CNC-machined (I'm getting a bit aroused) coupler ...

Just joking here ... you did good ... I just wanted to supplement the idea.

Best regards,

Ron

Yes, I personally like your type of thinking. You improvise. Do the best you can with what you got, now that is what I call smart. To some people, money means more than the couplers. To other, the couplers means more than money! It depends on how much you make. I knew that not everybody can afford my new creation just like Sony, Sharp, LG,and Samsung with their new LCD TVs or plasmas.

Don't worry, it just means you can carry more ammo and less empty space in your mag pouches. :kickInTheNuts::D
