10 rounds at 200 yards. Not a bad day at the range.

I thought there was a 200Y 10 round challenge thread, but I couldn't find it while looking. Anyway, I went out the other day for a day at the range, and tried for a small single group, 10 rounds at 200Y, with factory ammo in a DTA SRS A1, so technically a factory rifle.

Happy with the result, as I am sure its me that was the weak link in the equation.

Edit: Ill answer a few of the questions.

I am resting on a bipod (Cadex falcon lite) and rear bag, sitting position at a bench.
Scope is a SIG tango 4 6-24x magnification set around 18x,
No wind flags, but breeze was consistent roughly 5km/hr head on.

and point of aim was center of reticle, on center of target, but the stadia lines also framed the 8" target dot very nicely.
One trick for shooting groups I like it back your magnification off a little so the holes don't psych you out as bad, I like adjusting POA/POI off a bit too sometimes, but to me the point of shooting accurately is to hit what you are aiming for as well.

Is anyone else doing some group therapy now that the weather is getting nicer?

Awesome shooting, OP. Besides the above questions - what were you aiming at - I personally find it very hard to build a group when I see the holes change the aiming point - maybe you were aiming somewhere else?? Also, how did you monitor wind?? - were you using flags?

Good shooting. But groups for competition are measured from the center of one to the center of the other.
So 1.542 - .308 = 1.234 Still awesome for 10 shots at 200yds.

I did measure outside to outside, then subtracted the bullet diameter, then divided by 2 to get the MOA measurement at 100y.

Or did I do it wrong? Now Im second guessing.

1.1234" group size (after having deducted projectile size) at 200 yards = .617 MOA, no matter how you calculate it.

I had a good day as well today.
Shot my personal best 5 shot group at 100 yards.

The shooting gods were smiling on me.

I could have gone for 10 shots, but I chickened out.

^^^^^ I'd have done the same, been chasing a 1/4" group for a year now. I tend to shoot 10 shot groups these days, but if I saw that at 100m I'd quit at 5 and puff my chest out!

From a few weeks back, 300m, the group is actually 5", but 8 shots are in 1.329". What's amazing is that the rifle is a 783 that just loves junk food, CEF223 and FMJ's have been giving me outstanding results.

very nice shooting, I would have chickened out too.... or gone down for a pic and then tried to fill it out.

That damn 5 1/2" group challenge has me flustered for 7 years now.

I have a rifle that is fully capable, details below.

That said, I know it is a matter of luck that I shot that group. Huge luck.

And you're wiser than I am. Shouldda taken pictures, then shot some more...

There may be a slight concern with 0.308 hole size. Only with a good backing will the bullet make a 1:1 hole in the soft paper. Still sickly small groups though.
