THIS IS A CHALLENGE FOR YOURSELF. THERE IS NOTHING PERSONAL. IT IS NOT A COMPETITION. IT IS UP TO YOU AND ONLY YOU TO DO YOUR BEST AND LEARN FROM IT.

The target is the 100 Yard Unlimited Match and should be printed on 65 lb. Card Stock

http://cherrytwist.googlepages.com/PQFG100.pdf. Should it not reproduce, please send me a message with your email and I will send you a printable version.

The challenge is to shoot three ten-shot groups with a 22lr at 100 yards or meters.

Here are the requirements for the challenge:

You must use a 22 long rifle.

There is no restriction on action type or cost of the firearm or scope.

You may use any 22 long rifle ammunition you wish.

You must shoot three 10-shot groups at 100 yards/meters.

All three groups should be inside the respective seven rings and unobstructed so that the group can be identified.

All three groups must be on the same paper. The sighter target does not have to be used.

You must show the full sheet of paper. Try to keep all shots inside the 7 ring to aid in determining the group.

There cannot be anything on your target that could be hiding any group or bullet hole that is not part of your "official" attempt

All the attempts at the challenge must have been shot after the challenge was issued.

Please include distance in Yards or Metres plus the following:

1) A picture of your rifle, scope, ammunition and rests you used with pertinent information.

2) A picture of your full page target with all three groups visible and the overall group size minus your subtraction factor equals the center-center score for each target and the group average written on the target

3) A picture of your largest group with a set of calipers to verify the group size.

The subtraction factor is 0.22”. Group size minus SF equals center to center group.
1.465 - 0.22 = 1.245

Please put all your info into ONE POST. If you forgot anything please EDIT your post to include the missing info.

ALL POSTS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED INFO. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO IGNORE THEM UNTIL ALL THE INFO IS INCLUDED IN THE POST!!!!!

Any reference to a good group, congratulations, or questions should be directed to the person posting by way of a personal message. Dilution of the intent of this thread will spell the end to maintaining the site. In a PM ask the poster to clarify. My only entry will be the instruction page(s), pictures and targets as required for a post.

Works fine for me (and it did y-day when this was first posted) - but the 'math' is not correct. remove ALL the '0's in all numbers.
To those with trouble opening the target, It may be a browser blocker in the way. My Firefox I clicked "open link in new tab" and it just asked what to do with it. "Open with Firefox" gives the target OR you can save as a download (for printing later).

Here are my results from this mornings shoot.

Anschutz 1913 with NightForce 15-55 Competition scope set at 55 magnification. Sinclair front rest with Protector front and rear bags. SK Biathlon Sport ammunition.

Groups are 1.3995, 1.1980 and 1.0480 for an average of 1.215 inches. Shot at the Oxford Fish and Game Club at 9 today, Tuesday 03Aug21.

Yesterday I picked up my official, standardized targets on 65 lb cardstock. It was calm this morning so I thought I'd try them out.

The best target is shown below.

The groups were remarkably close in size. They are shown below in order of largest to smallest.

The group sizes are, starting with the top, .801", bottom left .799", and bottom right .836". The three group average is .812"

The rifle is an Anschutz 1913 BR50. The scope is a Sightron SIII 10-50 (don't need maximum magnification at 100). The ammo was Center X.

I measured the distance today from the front of the end of the building from which the 100 yard targets are shot. (The 50 range is at the other end.) The distance is 296 feet or 98.67 yards.

A note that may be of interest to some readers. I shot a target today with another lot of Center X. It wasn't nearly as good as the one I used on the target shown above. I discontinued using it. The lot I used on the target shown above (identified on the target itself) is not a stellar lot. At my usual shooting distance of 57 yards (my range's version of 50), it usually gives .3's with a the occasional .1's and .2's -- and even .4's every now and then. I don't think it's the ammo that will give me my goal of five sub-.25" groups at 50 because it's not sufficiently consistent. That's the problem with so much of the ammo that's available.

One exceptionally nice ten-shot group can really help. Looking at the target, it would have been nice to have avoided the errant-looking shot on the bottom-right target. I was shooting one of the two lots of 2020 vintage Midas + I have. This ammo has it's moments as I had another target with a nice ten-shot group of .523" Unfortunately, it still yields shots that can otherwise appear to spoil things.

Ten shot groups, top right, .426", bottom left, .838", bottom right, 1.066". The three ten-shot group average is 0.777".

The rifle is an Anschutz 1913 BR 50. The scope is a Sightron SIII 10-50 (don't need maximum magnification).

It was calm today, with occasional breezes that revealed themselves on a few targets. I had a number of targets that were spoiled by single errant shots, evidence that the lots of Midas + I have are less consistent than desired. I shot a last target with my best lot of Center X. It's shown below.

The top right is .742", the bottom left is .609", and the bottom right is .731". The three ten-shot group average is .694".

The rifle is an Anschutz 1913 BR 50. The scope is a Sightron SIII 10-50 (maximum magnification not needed).

Back in July of this year there was initial enthusiasm for a .22LR 100 yards "challenge" (see https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2177453-100M-YD-22LR-10-rnd-groups). Nevertheless, this thread seems to have suffered a decline into obscurity.

I want to encourage others to try this challenge. All that is required is to use the standard target and keep your group within the largest ring. That's very achievable with many rifle/ammo combinations. To illustrate, just today in another thread a poster using a CZ 457 MTR and CCI Subsonic HP ammo said his "Groups held MOA at 100 yards... cant complain to much at that with cheap ammo". You don't need an expensive rifle and expensive ammo.

In an effort to revitalize this thread, I'll post a target that I shot yesterday with my 1973-made Anschutz 1411 barreled action in a BR stock. It was very calm in the morning when I left for the range, but by the time I got there and got set up winds had begun. They were switchy, with occasional lulls. I tried to time my shooting for when it seemed the wind slowed. It was the first time I shot that rifle at 100 yards.

If I do better with this rifle in the future, I'll have a target to beat. The best single ten-shot group I got yesterday was 0.666", so I figure on a calm day I may be able to improve on the target below.

The groups are 1.154", 1.044", and 0.792". The three group average is 0.997".

The rifle is a nearly 50-year-old Anschutz 1411 with an Anschutz BR 50 stock (so an Anschutz 1411 BR 50). The scope is a Sightron Big Sky SIIB 36X.

I went to the range today and again shot the rifle shown in my last post, a 1973-made Anschutz that was originally a 1411, but now, instead of the original factory prone stock, it has an Anschutz BR 50 stock. The conditions were better today and I shot a couple of good targets with three ten-shot group averages of .774 and .721".

The best target was a little better than those two.

The three ten-shot groups were .785", .730", and .563". The three ten-shot group average is .693".

The rifle is an Anschutz 1411 BR 50. It has a Sightron Big Sky SIIB 36X scope.

This is a challenge! It is for anyone shooting a 22 long rifle to challenge themselves. It is not a competition and there is no prize.

The 22 long rifle can be extremely effective and accurate. Conversely . . . it can also be very inaccurate and in-effective.

Over the years I have heard many unconfirmed stories . . . "All the shots in one hole" . . . "My rifle really loves Blazers . . . Stingers . . . Stangers".

One need not be a Veterinary Surgeon to recognize horse manure!

When testing ammunition, my preference would be 100 yards or metres but have also fooled around with 25 yards, 50, 200 and 300.

There is no doubt what is made one day will not perform to the same level the next.

Case in point, CCI MiniMags . . . round nose were delivering 2" groups at 100 yards . . . hollow points were over 6" and about 6" to the left.

Expensive rifles and high priced ammunition generally perform better but the question is what will our rifle and ammo do for you.

Challenge yourself and have fun doing it. Everyone would appreciate your experiences.
