well. i have never looked into the 10 gauge, simply because i had the false idea that the 10 gauge would blow my shoulder off, (be uncomfortable to shoot)
i broke down and bought a 10 gauge browning bps from lequille country store. (nova scotia) i got a great deal on it. very happy. i took it to the range this morning, and loaded the mag full of 3 1/2 turkey loads, and one in the pipe. hoping the extra weight would absorb the recoil. i can not believe how manageable the shot was. i racked the next, fired, repeat until she was emptied. i fired 2 boxes of these shells today, and im not sore/bruised. not as bad as most of the reviews on the internet say. how punishing the loads are, ect. maybe it is the gun? but i could not have fired that many 3 1/2 12 gauge out of the super nova! hope this helps dispel some of the myth for someone out there who might have been thinking the same as me, and passed up the 10 gauge. at 25 yards using lead full choke, it looked like i had shot the center of the target at point blank range with my 12 gauge. it was ragged as can be. minimal flyers. ammo was winchester supreme 2 oz #4 shot. i am very impressed with the 10 gauge.

i have shot 10 guage 3.5 in semi auto 2 0z. loads and i find the recoil to be less than some of my 12 guage pump guns with 2.75 loads albeit heavy field loads .do not be afraid of the recoil as the extra weight of the ten soaks it up . i like the pattern i am getting and am looking towards goose hunting with my ten .i am just a little guy and if i can handle it you can too .

I've been using a single shot 10 guage for the last few years.
I got tired of those high flying geese laughing at me.
It kicks pretty good but not enough to make me stop using it. I wouldn't wanna shoot much trap with it.
It's fairly heavy compared to my 12 guage.

If I am not mistaken the reason the 10 ga. "recoils" less is due to the fact that it opperates at a lower pressure than that of the 3 1/2" 12 ga.

The worst part of the 10 gauge is finding ammo. All I've seen around here is steel BBB. I'd like to take it for turkey if I ever get drawn. I'll need to find some appropriate turkey loads first.

I am looking at a 10 guage for a future purchase. I wasn't scared of recoil, rather I welcomed it. Nice to know it's manageable. Now to find a reliable semi..

I shoot an AYA 10ga SxS, using 2 oz a d 2 1/4 oz handloads. To me, the recoil 'feels' comparable to hot 45-70 loads in my Marlin 1895GS. Another aspect that factors into the equation, in addition to stock design, is the weight. A quick check of mine shows up at just a touch over 10 lbs.

I have a spanish Ibergun SXS 10 ga, recoil is less than my 870 super mag with 3.5 inchers. First day out whacking clay at buddy's farm a very foolish magpie passed by at 60+ yards, it did not end well for him. Definitely the mojo needed for 12 ga trained Canadas :)

Recoil--not a problem witht he 10ga. I have a 10ga BPS, and a 10ga Gold Light, and the recoil feels the same as my 12ga BPS with 3" shells. I'm convinced it's the the weight of the 10ga guns more than anything.

When I shoot 3 1/2" shells at geese from my 12ga BPS, it just about loosens my teeth, when I shoot the 10ga BPS, the recoil is not noticed. The weight difference between these guns is pretty substantial though.

Gix.

your right. that helps with the recoil also. extra mass = more mass to absorb shock. but you wouldn't want to lump it around for a couple days

I own a Browning BPS in 10 ga for turkey as well.

I've got a buddy with a Remington with the thumbhole stock. If I had to choose one over the other I'd take my 10 ga everytime. The lightweight of the Rem with a 3 1/2" turkey load and the turkey choke installed pretty much blows my shoulder right off so I was kinda leery when I took the first poke out of my ten. What a difference, it was like shooting a 20 ga compared to that Rem 12 ga. I think the difference in the weight of the two guns was a big part of the recoil factor.

well i cn tell you about my 10g i got an H&R singel shot 10g and had iron sights weilded on her for turkey hunting .this thing was about 6 lbs .and boy did she ever kick the s it out of you éalmost unfriendley it left a big brues on your shoulder every time you shot her .i loved that gun DUTCH

good to hear.. i find that many people seem to over react about shotgun recoil in general.. i was almost scared the first time i tried shooting 3.5s out of the 535 because of everyone saying that it'll take your shoulder off, but i was pleasantly surprised.. i went through a box of them shooting clays without any complaints.
