I have a 10mm that is a S&W 610(revolver that shoots .40S&W and 10mm). I have shot it one time as I just got it. It is the most accurate gun I own and I have a few! I have a 1911 in .45 ACP(good shooter too). I have read a bit about 1911s and love the platform. The FBI started to go with the 10mm but stopped due to it being a bit hot for too many of the officers in an auto.
What I'm trying to say is the 10mm is a bit hot although I didn't notice it in the SS S&W 6.5 inch BBL. It was a dream. The 1911 platform, I think is best with a big, heavy, slow bullet with 7-8 round clip. That was it's design and it works best as designed in 1911 by Mr. Browning. The 10mm uses about twice the pressure as a .45ACP round uses. As I said before I didn't even know that the 1911 was chambered in 10mm. I am not declaring myself an expert by any means but I am into this a bit. If the 1911 is rare in 10mm there is likely a good reason for this. I checked as I thought the 10mm round was a lot longer than a .45ACP but it is almost the same length so in theory the 10mm is a match for the 1911's design. I guess my thought is that if you have a 1911 it is best in .45ACP but there are many calibers out there like .50GI that tickles my fancy! Also caliber change over kits with BBLs and slides to switch calibers.
I like the 10mm round and I hope it regains a strong following. More guns will be made in that round. In fact I hope that Ruger reintroduces the convertable revolver they had in 10mm and S&W brings back the 610.
One other thing is I just plain love revolvers and am not as sold on autos. Just disclosure of a bias I suppose. I think all guns should be in steel as well, no tupperware!
