10W30 motor oil as gun lube?

I used to use it in my IPSC competing days.

A heavy training session involved 500-600 through my 2011.
Most gun lubes would cook off and dry halfway.
Since I had discovered Mobil-1 synthetic 5W30, a decent amount (as in not overlubed) would keep the gun wet for the entire session.

Was incredibly dirty afterwards.
But did the job quite well, shot a certain 2011 in the 70,000 round count and remained tight until the day I sold it doing this.

And that my friends... is what I like to call the 'definite answer'...thread ender LoL.
Thanks BTW

just to squeeze in one more post on the thread .. I use 3 in one electric motor oil. nice light machine oil, handles heat OK. for long term rust prevention, sitting in the safe, I put a thin coat of unscented generic vaseline on the metal parts. WD40 as a bore cleaner.

A pleasure!
For S&G I had to go check in my ex-gun maintenance bench now in my storage.
It was 15W50 I was using afterall.
To say I still got the original pint I got in 2013, we can say I sure got some for my money!
Ahould of repackaged and rebranded and called it gun oil!
IIRC, it was less runny and stay in the gun properly than let’s say 5W50.

Now that I’m not getting my handguns real hot anymore or competing much except for my bolt actions,
I enjoy this little blue oil with it’s needle applicator.

Sure looks like 2 stroke motor oil to me, but it’s got a nice viscosity.
Never tried heating up a gun good with this one though.

It won't change the minds of most of the guys who spoke against it. After all they have speculation, conjecture and their otherwise poorly formed opinions, actual practical experience can never change that for them.
