1100 competition synthetic

3mac1,
Don't own a new remington but I have seen more than a few malfuntions at the club. What do you mean by wet? Light film of oil wet? Or dripping wet? or if in doubt give it a few extra drops or a quick spray wet?

On my old ones Covey I have always kept them clean beyond clean, then a wipe on the tube , rings, etc with oil and a rag. Very close to dry. That works for me.What I have seen guys do with the new designs is just spray them full spray and leave the oil so dripping with oil.

I am always shooting federal target loads. I've experimented with different oz, and de. I'm going out with 3 DE this weekend. Hoping the extra umph helps with cycling.

What would you consider a light oil? Someone has recommended that G96 will cause things to gum up, and that rem oil is the way to go... I have both.

I have noticed that Federal Top Guns leave more powder residue than any other brand, but love the smell:D

I use the rem oil or a browning oil which is also very light.

How did it work ?

I'm torn between it and last years 1100 g3.... I need to cycle light loads.

It went very well. I shot it "wet" (with a light coating of rem oil). I went through nearly an entire flat of Federal Top Gun, 3DE target loads. About half way through, I gave it a quick wipe down, with focus on the piston. I'm told I shouldn't have to do this, but wanted to go out and shoot a few rounds of doubles. Shot 2 rounds of doubles, which was a blast. No issues cycling at all.
FYI, even the heavier loads feel like lighter loads. This recoil system is awesome. 3 weeks of ownership, and I'm awfully close to highly recommending this gun. Sounds like my cycling issue was "break in" period. Next time out, I'll shoot it wet, straight through the day, without cleaning, and update this post with the result.

Glad it worked . It is not a break in period however but something you will have to do as long as you shoot it. Meaning shoot it wet or convert to the old seal style and run that one dry.
I am not saying to wipe it down at the range but I would get in the habit of cleaning it every time when you get home..It only takes a few minutes. Take care

Oh yes. It gets a thorough cleaning before it gets put away every time. I'll run it wet next weekend, and not bother with wiping it down. See how many rounds it cycles without fail.

Great to hear that you sorted it out and what the solution was. FWIW, I've never found G96 to be a problem in any conditions. It's the only thing I use on my semi-autos. I love the stuff.

That's because you never stocked up on Break Free when it was available.:)

At least one of your 391s keep on shucking because the left over break free from times you run it wet;)

Actually, the G3 has been discontinued for a few years now, (if I recall correctly, '08 was the last year of manufacture). Although there is still the odd one still to be found NIB here and there.

My local wholesale has a 20 gauge G3 NIB on hold for me and it priced at $869.00 on sale. I really like the wood and the free hard case.. But the other dealer in town can get me a 1100 competition in 20ga. ( ETA august)....so I'm torn right now. I bought a 11-87 new-ish in 12ga but after 3 rounds It won't cycle the walmart junk ammo so it's on the EE which is too bad.... However I really want a 20g 1100 with a vent rib but it "must" cycle the federal or winchester bulk ammo.

I'm all over the place...

The 11/87 is set up for higher power hunting loads and doesn't always shoot the lighter, cheap stuff. The 1100 is the target version and should shoot 20 gauge reliably.

Have you considered other options? Such as a Beretta 391 Sporting?

Right now I really like the G3. I like case, extra chokes, the fit and finish and for 950 tax payed it seems like to good of a deal to pass up.

Have you ever shouldered the gun? How certain are you that it will fit you?

The adjustability of the comp syn is a big plus, imho. If you're shooting a lot of clay targets, a gun that fits you properly, and won't beat you up as a result is HUGE.
