A friend has this gun.
The ring that is on the barrel has cracked.
The vent holes are unique to this model.
Can it be repaired?
Is it an impossible barrel to replace?
Thx.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post one of the problem part. There are several (possible) things that could be considered "rings" on the 11-87. It is also possible that it might be replaced by Remington if it is a serious defect. Without a picture, it is only a guess as to what is the defective part.

Sounds like he's talking about the piston housing that is attached to the barrel, that slides over the mag tube. Not sure if it can be welded or not. Might have to buy a new barrel.

The best bet might be to see if the barrel ring crack can be welded.

I owned a Remington 11-87 Sporting Clays in the early 90's and it was different from the standard 11-87 or the 1100 in a couple of regards.

Despite being called an 11-87, the barrel on the Sporting Clays model did not have the same gas compensating mechanism as the standard 11-87. There was a warning on the SC barrel not to use shells more powerful than 2-3/4", 3-1/4 dram, 1-1/4 ounce as I recall.

The barrel was closer to the Remington 1100 in design however the magazine tube on the 11-87 Sporting Clays was shorter (3 rounds instead of 4) and I do not believe replacement Remington 1100 barrels will work on it either. I have never seen an 11-87 Sporting Clays barrel for sale.
