12.5 Grizzly question

Will a Fore-End Tube Assembly for the 870 fit on a 12.5 Grizz ? I remember reading a thread where someone mentioned they had a hard time swapping fore-ends on there griz. The tube may have been a bit larger or something. I would like to buy another tube assembly but want to be sure she'll fit beforehand. Anyone know the facts?
 
I've never tried but I'd guess that it will fit no problem because I believe some people have used the 870 "happy face caps" on the Norinco's.
I think it's the Norinco assembly that is a bit thicker not the mag tube.
 
The mag tube on the Grizzly seams a little bigger than on the regular 870, I had a dificult time installing a FAB Defence forend on my Grizzly, but with the help of a hammer it finally went on, hopefully I won't have to take it off 'cause I don't think I can.

The foreend mounts on the foreend tube assembly which is a bit oversized, it's worth it to sand down the inside of a new foreend for the Norinco's...

The mag tube I'd guess is more standard as people have used 870 mag extensions on the Norinco's.

I will measure mine.
 
Really appreciate it Can-down! The grizz mag tube has the same 1 inch OD. Hopefully the action arms are the same and fit into the chinese slide assembly properly. cheers
 
The Grizzly tube is bigger. I hammered my aftermarket one on, and then took it to a smith to be Parkerized...he was none too happy, and I let him cut it off. He needed to widen the channel for a new one by a bit. It's too bad that spec is off slightly...I wanted to put a Surefire fore end on it, but I'm not about to permanently modify a $300 part so it so it only works on the Grizzly.

Well maybe you can do what Beaner is doing and get a Rem 870 fore end assembly and run that on a Grizz....

The grizz tube is not bigger it's the OD of the fore end assembly that is bigger..........
 
its not a problem at all - the grizzly mag tube is only a couple thousandths of an inch larger.
using a hammer/mallet is a very bad idea. synthetic forends - youll never get them off. wood forends will split down the middle.

take a sheet of sandpaper (IIRC i used 180 grit), and wrap it around a broom handle. since a sheet is longer than the forend, you can just hold the end of the sandpaper wrap so it doesnt unravel like i did. or, if you want to get all fancy, you can tape the sandpaper on with masking tape.
now sand the inside of the forend a bit. GO EASY - it doesnt take much, my wood forend was done in seconds. i guess a synthetic one would take a bit longer and require more care. try fitting it on every now and then. do NOT try and force a wood forend on or you will be sorry. even if it doesnt crack right away, it will later on.
 
That's what I did with a $20 dollar hougue foreend but I could see buddy's resistance to modifying a Surefire foreend because it could limit the re-sale value down the road....
 
i missed the part about it being a surefire forend (i still cant find it), but yeah i wouldnt alter one of those. if youre going to spend more than the cost of a shotgun on just a forend, then its probably best not to bubba it :D
 
Again I hope the action arm slots are the same and fit into the chinese slide assembly properly. I actually hammerd the old assembly into a synthetic forend with a piece of wood and still ended up rolling over the first couple of threads on the assembly. Im currently gently grinding them off to try and save it. It was cold in the ol shed and I rushed it by banging to hard causing the threads to roll over :(. Where will be the best place to get a new fore-end assembly anyway?

i know 100% for certain that an 870 bolt and bolt carrier will not fit in a Grizzly.
the triggergroups are also slightly incompatible but seem like theyd be easy to swap with some minor fitting. the Wingmaster triggergroup i tried was a bit too wide to fit int he slot in the Grizzly receiver.
 
Most if not all reviews and forums say that 870 parts interchange with the grizzly, especially the bolt(not sure about the grizzly mag though). And so if the bolts interchange I figure the bolt carrier will and then the fore-end assembly. I'll update when I pick up an assembly. cheers
 
Hi all,

I'm new to this, but I have somebody that leads me into the subject. I bought a couple weeks ago a grizzly. When it came time to make it a bit takticool, the surefire the gunsmith had on demo was really tight. So I was suggested to buy instead the forend Fab sold by fabsports. It was little less tight but tried the sand paper thingand slightly hammered it. You have plenty of rail under the forend and two small rails on the sides, so bought a front grip and led flashlight. It cost me almost half what I would have spend to buy a surefire forend. Please reply if you have the same fab forend and give me your taughts.

I've got my 870 express and 18.5 grizz on my table right now.
Stock 870 Foreend will NOT fit the bars. Needs sanding down.
Bolt and carrier do not fit.
Trigger group didnt fit to well.
870 side saddle fit, however, when the forward screw was tightened, the grizzly's trigger would not always give that satisfying "click"
 
Could you try swapping the complete 870 fore-end 'assembly' with the bolt to the Griz please.
