12-6,7 guns, what to look for

You are not reading the posts .
Your father can buy any handgun, any barrel length, any caliber is he is in fact 12.6
If he is only 12.7 he can't buy more.
12-6 guns are short barreled, 4 inch or under, any caliber, including 9mm.
32 or 25 caliber , barrel length does not matter.

Your father can buy more and as long as he keeps one registered to him at all time , he can pass your grandfathers gun to you at any time if he wants, now or lather, as stated , pre 1946
BUT YOU CAN"T go out and buy any yourself, because you will be 12-7, not 12.6
Got it?

Somehow I got it stuck in my head it was caliber specific... that OR word wasn't registering...
so many more options now, thanks everyone for sorting out this lunkhead!

It is caliber specific regarding 25 and 32 ,any barrel length for those caliber are 12-6 barrel could be 20 inch long, still prohib.
Any other caliber that has a barrel 4 in or 105mm or under in length is 12-6.
Pure Liberal B.S., but when you walk around with your head up your butt, this is what we get.
If you want to figure it all out, I suggest a 1/2 jug of good scotch.
Hope we helped.

Yes, thanks. The end result is me getting 12-7 status with a gun I'd like to own, and keep that status until the time comes that my grandfather's 12-6 revolver can pass to me with as little problems as necessary. I do like the idea of a PPK.
The S&W Victory mentioned earlier I like too, I didn't know about that one so that's exactly the kind of suggestions I'm hoping for.
Whatever I do buy will remain prohibited unless I'm forced to modify it to restricted, or whatever new laws may arise before my father's death.
My grandfather's gun isn't in shootable condition so adding something that is would be nice. Lots of junk "placeholders" available but if I go this route something useable would be preferred.

There is no need to get your 12-7 BEFORE you can receive the pistol you inevitably want. When your father is willing to let it go, you will get your 12-7 then. The only reason to concern yourself with 12-7 license now is to get a gun that you want now, which in my opinion, should be every single one you can get your hands on.

If I was your father I would buy every 12-7 eligible firearm he could find. I would want 100 of them so I can parcel them out to every member of my family who might ever want to get their 12-7, just to keep the dream alive for as long as possible.

Or your father could buy ANY 12(6), even a cheap $100 beater to hold onto his 12(6). Then he could do the 12(7) transfer to you and keep his 12(6) status.

Ultimately, this is your best bet. If all he wants is to hold onto to his 12-6 status, and is willing to let the gun you want go now, just get the cheapest 12-6 you can find.

The Harper Conservatives had six years in majority government to change this Liberal garbage. They didn't. Incrementalism was their policy. Then they ran out on gun owners.
Can anyone, anyone believe that the new guy in charge of the Conservative Party of .....will actually do better? This is the same guy who lost on 12 out of 13 ballots and supports Supply Management.

Canada is lost... We need a Trump!

My father has his 12-6 for my Grandfather's Belgian .32. The idea is to pass it on to me legally. He doesn't want to transfer it over before his death and give up his 12-6. It would be nice for me to have my 12-7 in place before that happens, and before Trudeau makes changes. He still might make it impossible, but while it is still a legal route we are thinking to buy a 12-6(7) compliant gun to transfer over to me and have my 12-7 in place when the time comes.
I know nothing about guns from that era so I'm looking for advice on what might be an interesting gun to look to purchase.
I collect WW2 era military rifles so something in that genre would be interesting to me. Baby Brownings I kinda like, are they 12-7 compliant? I'm looking for suggestions as Googling 12-7 compliant pistols hasn't really been fruitful.
If we're going this route it would be nice to get something interesting and not just a licensing placeholder.
Thanks!

I have a 12(6) Bulldog revolver that doesn't work but could serve as your dad's 12(6) place holder.

If he wants it, I'll transfer it to him for nothing and he pays the Canada Post stamp.

I wouldn't write Andrew Scheer off just yet. He certainly seems to want to model himself after Harpers Success, but being a young pup, politically speaking, Harper's success is the only Conservative success he has ever known. Give him a chance to find his own stride, and then just him on his own actions, not your preemptive fear of his predicted failure.

Given the Canadian prime minister has far more control over the affairs of parliament than the US president has over congress, it would be interesting to see what a trump like person would be able to do without the constraints of checks and balances that the US has. I have no doubt that the right kind of trump like person could eventually get elected here, but they would have to run for the liberals (as a Conservative there would be too much undeserved stigma). I highly doubt ANYONE would be happy with what the country would look like afterwards.
