Since in buying a 12(6) gun, I would be buying a gun I can't pass on and eventually be of no value to me or my heirs, should I not expect a discounted price?

In addition since us 12(6) licence holders are diminishing in numbers every day it will be increasingly difficult in the future for me to sell it at any reasonable price, i.e a bad investment.

So, for example, how much (percentage wise) would I expect a typical 4- inch Smith and Wesson to be less than a 6-inch version ? .

25%, 50% ?

In my case, my Son In Law has 12(6) status so should the unexpected happen, those I have will go to him. Another possibility to consider I guess would selling them state side.

Well you can't buy a new one from a dealer so used is the only option .
Seller set's the price . You as a buyer can accept it , make an offer , or move on .
Simple as that . There is no 12.6 discount

Perhaps "discount" is the wrong word here. What I was trying to get at is how much cheaper they would be given the ownership encumbrances.

That about sums it up for me.

I have 12(6). If it's for sale & I want it I'll pay what the seller is willing to accept for it.

I have bought a number of 12.6 4" S & Ws. M66 $125 M67 $200 M29 $400.

Those asking more are welcome to ask for more. I hope they can get it. But most of us with 12.6 already have a barrel full of them. Deal has to be pretty good for me to be interested.

Same here.

Most of my collection is 12(6) and I have all the guns I wanted to collect, so, unless something really interesting comes along, I probably won't be buying any more. People asking 800 - 900 dollars for a run of the mill gun that's 12(6) is just ludicrous. People can certainly ask what they want for them, but seriously, unless it's something pretty special, they are going to have it for a long time.

The "discount" depends on the gun. In your example I'd say 50%. A 6" S&W K38 in mint condition could demand $500 whereas you'd be lucky to get $250 for a 4" S&W Model 15 in the same condition. In other comparisons the difference could be more or less. A 6" Python will be many times more expensive than a 4" Python while the 4" will be far less than the 2.5" version.

If you want an "investment" buy the highest condition examples of the 2.5" Colt Python, 3-1/2" S&W Model 27, S&W .44 Magnum Mountain Revolver, Colt SAA in .32-20 and every Luger you can get your hands on particularly the Nazi-marked versions then arrange to get them shipped to the USA and put on consignment.
