12 ga 2¾ slug for moose.. do or don't?

I've been invited to moose hunt this season...

I'm not sure I'll have to shoot as I'm new to the group but still I'll take cartridges with me

I have a dozen of 12ga 2¾ slugs and I'd like to take that with me, only I'm thinking 3 and 3½ doesn't exist for nothin, I know the 2¾ is suitable for deer, but what about mooses

i'm just concerned about the power difference between 2¾ 3 and 3½ what would you consider a reasonable distance? 75 yards?

Slug choice is way more important than a little extra speed. Use a high quality slug and keep shots within your accurate/comfort range and you'll have a dead moose.

I've got rifled challengers and I'm not going to be choosing these at the store i just already have them

I got mine on the weekend from a distance of 30 feet with a neck shot to make sure he didnt run further into the thick bush. As a 300 win mag dropped him like a bag of hammers id say I wouldnt hesitate to use a slug at that distance. Id also be more concerned with accuracy than horsepower.

There are many slug hunting options. Are you talking rifled slugs out of a smooth bore barrel? Sabot slugs out of a fully rifled slug barrel? Or sabot slugs out of a smooth bore barrel with a thread in rifled choke tube?

common is that "good luck" sarcasm or empathy? either way I'm still not sure what I'm being answered there

Wouldn't be my first choice of a slug and I take it you are shooting them from a smoothbore? What type of sights are you using? If so, what's your effective accurate range.

No sarcasm here. You will be fine. Shot placement+effective range=1 dead moose. Sorry for the wrong impression. The slug is devastating within its effective range. It all depends on how you group at what range.

Interestign, it's illegal to use slugs on moose in BC. Don't know why....

Likely for the same reason in Denver, it is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next door neighbor. The world is full of stupid, antiquated laws. No matter how hard the government tries, you can't legislate common sense!
