I have developed a really accurate load in my M96 using 129gr Hornady SP over H4831.

What I'd like to do is duplicate the accuracy with Barnes 130gr TSX using the same powder.

The COL I used with the Hornady SP was 2.905". The COL for the Barnes will be 2.95". After a bit of number crunching it appears that the Barnes bullet will be 0.106" more inside the case.

My question is, how much should I reduce the powder charge as a starting point for the new bullet?

My guess is 1 grain, but I would appreciate hearing from more experienced loaders.

Thanks

CT

I would drop more than 1 grain to safe. What is the starting load given for your powder? Start there and work up. It may give great accuracy at the same load and then again maybe not.

I have found that the TSX/TTSX bullets work best at .040" or more away from the lands.

So, you may want to check that in your rifle. Regards, Dave.

Theory is it won't matter. However, that is for lead cored bullets. I'd contact Barnes. Or see if you can find a Barnes manual in a gun shop and sneak a look. They don't publish much data on-line so you'll buy their manual. email@barnesbullets.com
Only one load on Reloader's Nest for a 130 Barnes. Uses Reloder 19.
Neat things those solid copper bullets, but they are a nuisance to load for. I'd be thinking 10% reduction and work up.
