I'm currently running a 16.1" MRA heavy profile barrel with a M4-72 comp under a 15" MRA SLW handguard. I am considering switching it out to a 14.5" Ballistic Advantage barrel and using my 11.5" MRA V-1 handguard. According to the math this would shave 11.9 ounces of weight off and give me a lighter and more maneuverable platform. How much more recoil do you think there would be? Both barrels would be mid-length gas systems with a non-adjustable gas block. I am not worried about range as our matches never shoot any further than 100 yds.

You'll notice the rifle being lighter and less tiring to carry, recoil should be slightly more due to the lighter weight of the rifle but I doubt you'll notice much.

I use both lengths you stated in 2G depending on my mood. No noticeable difference. The weight isn’t a big deal either since you’re not carrying any gun all day during a stage anyways.

Get a brake if you’re concerned.

IMO, a good trigger and optics will affect your match results more than 2” and 12 oz.

Thanks for the first hand account. I am already running a PA M4-72 brake, Geissele single stage precision trigger and ACOG TA33 so I am pretty well covered.

Fixed 3x optic? I would suggest that should be the next piece of gear changed. Go with a good 1x dot / prism, or go with a good 1-6x / 1-8x.

It works well enough for me. My eyes aren't good enough to use a red dot effectively. I used to use a Burris MTAC 1-4x but I find I am faster with the ACOG plus it has much more forgiving eye relief than any scope.
