As the title says. Just looking for opinions. Heading to Camp Wainwright for moose next week. I know you should get the biggest bullet possible for this calibre when hunting a large animal like a bull moose but the current bullet I am zeroed for is the 165 gr Accubond. Shot placement is everything so should I be looking at a bigger bullet in .308 or just go with what I have. Your opinions are appreciated.

The 165gr Accubond will work just fine.In fact,it is my preferred bullet weight for the 308win.

Below is my 54" Camp Wainwright moose. Before they started giving out so many tags, there were quite a few 50"+ bulls around.

Thanks for your response guys. Looking forward to the hunt, took me nine years to get the draw, last time I will do that. Also have the deer draw 6-8 Dec so it should be a good month.

Nice moose Stubblejumper & Blargon! I bought 165 Accubonds to load for my 308, nice to see the evidence that they'll do the job.

My bull wasn't killed with an Accubond,it was killed with a 180gr Ballistic Tip.I posted it because it was killed during the special hunt in Camp Wainwright that EC has drawn this year.It was meant as a little teaser as to the kind of bulls that can be found at the Camp.Unfortunately, the tag numbers were increased so much, that the quality of the bulls has dropped off quite a bit recently. There are still big bulls to be found, but they aren't nearly as common as they once were.

absolutely it will work on moose. I used that bullet 3 years ago in 30-06 to dump my first 6pt bull elk. Hammered him!

I'd take a 165 accubond over 180 grain standard non-bonded bullet any day. I used to switch between 150's and 180's in my .308's depending on what I was hunting. Some years back I changed to 165's for everything, and I think it was the right decision. Bullet construction matters at least as much as bullet weight in my experience.

Actually the .308" 180gr Ballistic Tip has a very thick jacket, and it holds together quite well.I took 8 elk and 2 moose launching them at 3340fps out of my 300RUM rifles. The TSX/TTSX,are certainly tougher, but that particular Ballistic Tip does quite well.On the other hand, the .308" 165gr Ballistic Tip is quite soft.

A 165 acubonds should be fine in a 308. In 30-06 I've used a 220 winchester, 180 Core lock, 125 Winchester (by mistake but it still only required one shot in the heart) and my favorite is 165 Sierre Game King BT.

My wife shoots a 308, 150 gr hornady interbond. She has taken 3 moose and 2 Elk with it. The 165 Accubond will be just fine!
