How did you guys remove the nut that the stock handguard affixes to?

I have an SLR I want to put on.

I have an action vice block for the AR 10, I don't want to reef the crap out of it and damage it though.

I also have a new bbl I want to install on it, that I can watch some tutorials on YouTube, which I have done already.

Upgrades so far are:

TriggerTech flat trigger

SLR Adjustable Gas Block

Magpul buttstock

Quick detach swivels

Vortex 4-16x50 scope

Raptor charging handle

Brownells BCG

I took the muzzle brake off and used a thread protector.

One thing I have noticed so far is, the trigger pins are out of spec. After replacing the stock trigger, the pins wouldn't stay in.

I luckily bought a DPMS complete parts kit, and the replacement pins work well.

After the bbl and handguard are changed out, the only thing stock will be the upper and lower, the buffer, and buffer tube.

I'm likely going to change those out, and get a silent captured buffer, and will need to change the tube as well, as they are an odd length.

Did you tighten down the two TT set screws to hold the pins in?

Is that odg?
Weird I ordered my odg on the second preorder and I still haven't received it yet...
Humm should I be worried?

So the 3/16 wrench goes where?

You will need a 1 and 3/16th wrench for the new barrel nut ... that equates to about 31mm but I would not use the metric size.

Anyway - the OEM barrel nut is squared of to accommodate its removal.

If you tightened your trigger tech screws yours pins would should not be loose, doubt any "out of spec" could allow that much slop? You need to either hold the receiver or barrel from spinning while removing your nut, either receiver vice blocks, barrel extension torque tool, barrel vice. Also you can clamp it (the barrel) in a vice with suitable blocks and/or with a nice thick chunk of leather to avoid damaging it. Make sure you check headspace after installing new barrel. No guarantee's on a barrel swap headspacing correctly!!

I used the brownells 308 torque tool and a crescent wrench to remove the barrel nut. ..pretty straight forward. i too found the trigger pins holes were a off. i swapped a ssae in and had to reuse the stock pins..the geiselle ones wouldnt work.

slr sent the wrong barrel nut with my hand gaurd so no range time yet :(

Right on, got it now, thank you!

I have a receiver vise block, that's what I'll be using. I also have go/nogo gauges. I got the criterion from Brownells. Hoping it works out well. It's a 20", pretty light though.

That and the SLR, I'm hoping to shave some weight off.

Hoping I got the right nut with mine....

oh we are ok with buying barrels from brownells?
I thought that was a no go

Can you measure the weight differences between these? You can buy a barrel from brownells but you'll have to pay for a permit which is 250 usd
