I sold a 1st year production Ruger 77/17 HB laminate that could stack them at 100yds when the wind was down.
I sold it to buy fancier guns (Krico, Anschutz and Sako) that can't compare to that Ruger. Serious sellers remorse!

I have Canadian and American 455's in .17HMR. Amazing accuracy! Wickedly fast and flat shooting. Many gophers went bye-bye this summer. Love them both.

I have a 17 mach 2. I have yet to master its full potential. Extremely accurate
I like it better for edible small game. The hmr is to violent for rabbits and squirrels and grouse yet to light for coyotes past 50 yards in my opinion.

X2 my preference for grouse. I really want to try and build an accurate Ruger 10/22 in Mach 2 but I cannot locate the components

That is because most manufacturers stopped producing those components due to several incidents of semi auto 17mach2 rifles firing out of battery.

A real shame. I have a modestly modified 10/22, and I think if it was in 17 Mach 2 it would just be the best grouse gun. Such a flat firing calibre, it would be ideal.

There was some components advertised earlier this year, but its rare to find them advertised.

How far do you have to shoot for grouse? We have shot hundreds with pellet guns.

I usually hunt timber fringes with a buddy and my two pointers, we take it in turn on who has the shotgun. Once flushed they normally make it into timber and the average shot is 50-60 metres, sometimes further. The bush can get really thick, so walking in is not always an option, and they are prone to flying off deeper into the timber if further spooked. I use a shooting stick for assistance on placing a shot. The .22LR is fine, but I find the .17 Mach 2 has much less drop so more tolerant of varying distances.

I agree the mach2 is awesome for longer range squirrel and rabbit. Would be perfect for turkey if they'd allow rimfire here
