Hey All
So, a little over a week ago I finally started my own Blog. (www.thegundiary.com) Now, 2000 hits later, I am amazed by how interested people are in the potential range of the 22 Long Rifle. (My most popular article by far!)
So, to celebrate my new Blog, I have decided to order an accurate .17 HMR rifle. Here is the new setup:
* Savage TRR-SR with Millett LRS 6-25X56 (I have also ordered "shims" to ensure adequate adjustability)
I will be testing at different lengths with two cameras, (HD Contour on the Gun's rail system and protected T2i right next to the 36" x 36" steel target) and a Leupold 1000 rangefinder to disprove the critics...
I have access to a remote gravel pit that is massive. Any distance is possible and the high pit walls ensure almost no wind. I have stretched my existing .17 out to 200 yards with no problem, so here comes the big question:
What is the maximum range of a good .17 HMR rifle? I want to do 650 yards with 50/50 accuracy, is it possible given lots of time and ammo?
Should be interesting to see the opinions before I actually try it...
PS: I consider myself to be an "average" shot, but if I cannot reach 600 yards, I am going to bring in a friend who is an experienced long range shooter...
