17 Hornet Re-Barrel?

I have owned three rifles in 17 Hornet, a Ruger 77, a CZ527, and Cooper. The Ruger had accuracy issues, but I haven't had any other issues with any of the rifles. A couple of friends had issues with the Savage 25, both replaced them with a CZ527, and have been happy ever since. What I really enjoy about the 17Hornet, is that it doesn't heat up the barrel when used for high volume shooting in a gopher field, and it is effective to at least 250 yards. I started out using handloads with Lil Gun , and switched to CFE-BLK, as it is less sensitive when shooting on a hot day, and it doesn't copper foul.

As additional information on the Savage Model 25, I bought one in August 2024. Had serious difficulty with extraction, having to tap the bolt open. Mind you this was with Hornady Super performance ammo, so the ammo may have played into the issue. Casings came out with a dent just behind the shoulder. Borecam showed a gouge in the chamber. Sent it the the Canadian Savage repair place. To shorten a very long story, it took Savage 16 months to replace it. Communication with the Canadian warranty folks was non-existent. In fairness to Savage, by the year mark they offered to replace the gun with anything else in their catalogue, even if somewhat more expensive, but nothing else in their lineup was interesting to me, and I was specifically wanting a 17 Hornet. At that time they told me they were not sending out
replacements for the model 25 17 Hornets because about 25% of the guns had issues with failure to extract. And that they were redesigning the extractor. This might be relevant to the issue with the Hornady ammo mentioned above. I'm wondering if they were redesigning the extractor cutout and extractor to better support the casings. Anyway, new rifle finally arrived just just before Christmas, haven't had a chance to shoot it. Sure as heck won't shoot Hornady factory ammo through it. And hopefully have a good gun this round.
