17hmr what is it good for?

Cdn1canhunt,

The 17HMR is definitely human food on Jacks. I am comparing this to my .22-250. A shot well placed....head/neck is great with either gun. But misjudge your lead and the 17Hmr is more forgiving if you happen to nail'em in the broiler.

A light rifle, the 17HMR is a nice change of pace on Jacks....but the .22-250 is my top choice because of the extended range often required.

What would you say the optimal range is for the .17HMR to dust a Jack? just wondering. I have shot them with the .22 rim out to about 60yrs DRT if you do your part.

PS: It's good the hear that the .17HMR does more that juice oranges at 100+ yrds.:D CDN 1

A hunting buddy shot and killed a big Ontario groundhog at 200yds with his 17HMR. I could barely see him hiding in the grass. Of course it was off a bipod on a quiet evening. A well placed shot works every time!!!

Since everyone has a 17HMR, I tried the 17 HM-2 just to be different. It's awesome too! It doesn't have the range of the HMR but sure works on small critters out to 100yds. It's just as accurate too!!!

ok i dont own a 17hmr but have always wondered why not just use the 22 mag? its cheaper and has similar range and greater bullet wieght? Though i have to agree with everyone who said the 22-250 is king :D

It's just too fun to shoot-death ray on fox or if you calling yotes in close cover. If I judge wind wrong and miss I don't change guns lol. It's just a fun little calibre to shoot.

I never considered "Fun to shoot" a constructive critique, cause what ISN'T "Fun to shoot"? lol. :)
Same goes for people that say that a car is nice cause it's "Fun to drive".
