1895 gbl

My 44 marlin I bought many years ago had feeding issues and insanley sharp edges (I use to cut my fingers in the reciever all the time)same as other Marlins I have owned in the past. I am not saying quality control hasn't gone down I have noticed tiny flaws in my GBL. But maybe some people are looking harder to find flaws in Marlin now that Remington owns them then before.

Just my 2 cents

My Marlin of roughly five years ago was very good. Good fit, finish, and perfect function. That is not the case with the Remington-Marlins judging from what's on the racks in retailers, honestly I was stunned guns like that could be boxed and shipped out all over North America. QC for Marlins has never been this bad, ever.

I bought an 1895 Marlin 45-70 (classic) two years ago and it's an excellent rifle. I've done a couple of things to it (Wild West trigger and extractor, Lyman peep) and slipped a recoil pad and leather butt sleeve on it, fabbed up a leather sling, and now she's my pride and joy. It grieves me to hear that the QC is taking a nose dive......I have been thinking about an 1894 for a while now.....

My 1895 was sent off to Gravel with no less than 3 major problems....ammo feeding, front and rear sights. The gun was so bad they have to replace it...I'm now on a 6 month+ waiting list....
I'm glad to hear of a few good stories.......mine isn't so good

Was your rear sight canted to the right a bit? Mine was. And, yes, mine didn't feed a single round! Got it fixed at Gravel, and surprizingly, I've grown very fond of it! None of these problems should have gone past "QC". I will likely keep mine long term, but I won't buy another Marlin, ever.

The rear flip up sight was bent to the left slightly when in the up position and the front sight was D & T'd about 5 degrees off center of the barrel.....the feeding problem I was able to fix myself (extractor).....the response back from Gravel was that it also had a head space problem as well....
'QC' was non-existent for this particular gun in my opinion, which is truly sad because I have other (older) Marlins and they are far superior to this POS
