ok so my birthday is december 21st and im getting on big 18th bday and xmas gift this year and i need help! My parents have agreed to buy me a pistol of my choosing BUT im stuck there are sooo many choices haha. So help me out guys! Ok so it has to be a 9mm (university student and cant afford .45 acp) im looking at the para LTC, BUT theres also a kimber cutom II stainless that has caught my eye. Now ive never been a big stainless steel fan.... until i saw this pistol. What do you guys think? any other suggestions? Im partial to a 1911 but am open to other suggestions...... except! no polymer.

I would definatly consider looking at the CZ line. It fits all the criteria.. 9mm/non-poly fram/accurate/ looks cool (you know it matters) and parts are easily available. You could pick up an SP01 pretty cheap with a few mags and its probly one of the most accurate pistols on the market.

Then later on get a S&W 1911 PD in .45 ACP :D. Im a student too and although its hard to afford the .45... its worth it!

Just take the money, invest half of it and use the other half to buy something used off the EE. If you have to ask a bunch of internet strangers what pistol to buy, then you probably don't really need one. Grow the money until you are SURE of what you want. At 18, money for a car and/or University might be better. Yeah, not as exciting, but in the end you'll be able to get more/better firearms and go to the range. I'm pretty envious though: I wish more parents were open-minded enough to buy a firearm for their kid!

yeah, i need one for my competitions because borrowing one and using one i havent practiced with is killing me, i have already car too.

Also i do like the look of the cz-75b line up but not the sp01. Havent had a chance to shoot one though.

I like these the grips are amazing

If you are a student, then don't buy a Para, it will screw you big time to send the ####ing gun to the State for any repair. KImber on the other hand has better track record but not better than STI ranger II, their warranty wrok very good in Canada too. I also second the CZ line of pistol, the Shadow is top of the 75B line and is a great gun. I have a 75B in satin nickel, the most beautiful finsh on a seven hundred dallors gun.

I'd say a Sig P226 stainless. ($1200-1600 brand new)

I prefer the .40 S&W caliber version personally. It just feels more natural to have the .40S&W.
But if you're into the 9mm thing, Sig have it in that caliber too

And if ammo cost too much. there's a conversion kit to convert the 226 to a .22LR cal (super cheap ammo lol but the kit itself will run you another $200-$400)

Go to a range and try a bunch of different models until you find the one you like... Everyone has their preferences, after all.

My $.02 worth, since your parents are paying for it, get a Sig :)

Are your parents willing to adopt? :D

And I would recommend something reliable and easy to fix, such as a glock with all the trimmings

Glock would be a wiser choice but since you mentioned you wanted a 1911 style i would highly recomend a STI trojan or the Ranger.
I have owned both and they shot very well.I ended up selling them as i found I enjoyed shooting my Glocks more.

I think the 1911 is not meant to be in 9mm... that just... sounds kinda wrong... doesn't anyone agree with me on this?

1911 should only be in .45 & and if it's just for fun, get the .22lr conversion with it.
same with Sig P226. I'm searching the market for the .40sw P226 with the .22lr conversion kit.

if you need the heavier kick, swap the barrels and install the .45 or .40sw
if you need the practice, swap in the .22LR kit (saves money)
