19 more italian garand rear sight assembly available

just got my 2 today. Now I gotta figure out how to take em apart. Ive tried loosening the the windage set screw and then unscrewing the windage dial, but it pulls the elevation dial in until its jammed up against the sight body.

And I'm not positive but it appears that the sights pinions are too long for the sight body, because the elev dial is about a 1/4 inch from the sight body when everything is completely tightened. Did garands have rear sights of diferent widths, so that they had sight pinions of different lengths???

I haven't seen mine yet, as I'm out of town.

My girlfriend did give me the gear a little bit when they arrived - not over spending the money, but because a big burly oilpatch type guy was buying designer parts from Italy!! :D

Question: I know that these are Garand sights but did the Italians make them in yards or meters? I suppose it doesn't matter much 'cause I should be getting some G.I. M14 goodies from a buddy when he comes back from the Phillipines in the new year.

Got mine yesterday too. I'd been in contact with the seller and he seems a good sort. They look fine. Still full of cosmo but a trip through the dishwasher will take care of that. The numbers stand out nicely on the dials. Nice long claws on them too so hopefully they'll have a nice click to them once mounted.

How do you clear out the water / prevent rust after a diswasher trip? Or do you disassemble it?

I run the whole cycle in the dishwasher including dry (or sterilize or whatever) cycle. Comes out clean and dry as a bone. Apply light coat of gun oil and you're off to the races.

This works wonders for getting the cosmoline out of the stock too and does a nice even job. You need a sympathetic wife like mine to get away with that one though. :D

There's a long thread on the "dishwasher method" somewhere in here.

I disassembled my two, cleaned with simple green degreaser, brake part cleaner, and very hot water. Then I dried them, applied a light coat of oil, reassembled, and wiped off the excess oil. Now they're shiny and ###y and just waiting for the M14's to get the same treatment.

When I disassembled my existing sights to remove them, I notice the stamping of the serrations on the left side of the receiver, those which create the 1 moa clicks for elevation, are poorly stamped on half of the circle. The elevation sight dial has just one point that drags on these serrations to create the clicks. So, if your receiver is poorly stamped like mine, the drag will be very poor and the notches indistinct for half of the elevation range. Kind of sucks, and changing the sights to Garand won't help, as its the receiver, not the sights that contain this defect. There is a cure, an elevation wheel is available that you locktight or epoxy to the receiver. I might order one and see if it cures the problem. IF they will ship to Canada.
