I have a few ideas on the fix but under the "no such thing as a silly question" clause.

I have just noticed the the beaver tail is starting crack along the bottom of the spur , working its way from the edges to the center. Judging by the marks on the top of the beavertail I have notice that this might be because the the hammper is hitting it when it recocks .

so some advice guys

Out of warrantee I assume? :( Sounds like the hammer is hitting. Can you push the hammer by hand and make it hit the tail?

How many rounds through it? First time you have noticed the hit marks?

If you can afford to have the beaver tail replaced with a new fitted one then that might be the best way. Double check the hammer doesn't hit the new one.

Another option would be to machine a bit out of the tail where the hammer hits or grind down a bit on the hammer. Then drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from going further.

OH he!! ya ! i bought it second hand about 10 years ago the previous owner never shot it much ........and i just started shooting it again,
the answer to your question is yes it will hit the beaver tail
frankly i am going to replace the beaver tail anyway

I was thinking the same thing my friend
is this sort of thing common with 1911s?

I put a beavertail on a stock norinco once. After I radiused the frame I realized the pocket in the tail wasnt deep enough. I used a pointed stone to start dremeling the pocket deeper. I evened it up as best I could with a flat stone. Finishing was a bit harder, but appearance was important to me at the time so I took a piece of a fine square stone and cleaned it all up and reblued it. Came out alright in the end with no troubles. And I fired that gun ALOT. Hmmm I miss that gun.
