1911 Bare Frames????

so armco is sold out? $120 on his site for bare norinco frame.

STI spartan frames for $240

the canam $499 deal is still best in my opinion... will just take more work to sell off the ammo
 
Yep. Arco doesn't have any government frame just commander sized frames.

Freedom has STI frames but they are the higher end frames. Just a tad under $400 for them. Too much for me for this "learning experience".

I'm going to spend some time going through the brownells 1911 catalogue and see if I can indeed build a commander in 357 sig. Maybe a commander is the way to go if I can't get a government frame.
 
Thanks for the advice but after talking with Marstar today they only have blued commander frames. No government frame presently available.

Aside from the fact that the grip safety 'tails' MAY be contoured differently and the ejector MAY be different (if one is installed) they are the same.
 
I guess there is some confusion here on commander, officer and governmental.

I thought the commander and government frames were the same. Can you guys confirm?
 
Well since I can't seem to find a full size norinco frame that's not beat to a pulp, it looks like I'll buy the commander frame if I can get a slide for it as well. Then I'll part out my full size norc and convert it to 357sig.

Just now waiting to hear about a slide.
 
FWIW.
If you're buying both a frame and a slide, you might as well buy a complete pistol.
That would be a better starting point, and save you money at the same time.

Your probably right but the point of this whole exercise to begin with wad to learn how to custom fit all the parts myself to make my own custom piece. I know I'll spend way more but for me it's the education i want and am willing to pay for it.

just FYI regarding your post about pinched neck nerve...

hand fitting slide/frame isn't exactly muscle relaxing
 
Oh I know, believe me. But if I can work on a frame even 20 minutes a week it'll be enough to keep me happy as I Iive through this hell.

Right now everything hurts almost all the time, so a few minutes of a hobby is all I can expect and appreciate.

I would like to know how you"beat a Norinco 1911 frame to a pulp". They are the hardest, springiest 1911 frame I have worked on. The Norinco slides can be a real bear to tighten as well, a big bench vise with a long handle is needed. They are the perfect gun to build a .460 Rowland, or a 10mm on, does a .357 Sig need a ramped barrel?
