1911 Hand Cannon :The 460 Rowland

let me know if your gonna be selling and of your Rowland loads there Kristian, im gonna have to either get into reloading or find someone to make me these loads.
expecting my conversion any days now, its been in transit for a couple days now.

You're going to have to get serious and start reloading.
Unless Kristian has a manufacturers license, he can't sell you his loads!

Guy at the range the other night had a grizzly in 45 Win mag. The bay lit up like a strobe went off and the building shook.

It was awesome.

If the .460 can do that, without beating the piss out of the shooter.... I might need one.

It went together pretty easily. The only slight hitch was the bushing was slightly oversize compared to my slide, but 5 minutes with an emery cloth wrapped socket took care of that though. The 24lb recoil spring is a bugger to get in though. Hopefully you get yours soon too, Wayupnorth.

I didn't even know mine had been shipped until I got the slip from the post office and realized that was the only thing I had coming for parcels. Hopefully I have time to load a few rounds for it soon.

Will this work on Para-Ordnance P14.45 Limited in stainless steel double stack 1911? I want to try this one and looks interesting. Too bad, I can't shoot it outdoor with different targets like watermelons or pumpkins.

the lad's at 460 Rowland have a list of 1911's that they say work good with their conversions.
if your gun is an odd ball you can email them and they got back to all my emails within a day, so im sure they could tell ya right quick.
the biggest thing is the heat treatment vs the non heat treatment of the gun when they are made.

Yup.The difference between the upper and the lower row of manufacturers is: The upper one have Forged steel frame and forged slides, the lower row has cast slides in all applications and sometimes cast frames too.(or too old of course)
Cg

The only 1911 maker that I know of that ever used cast slides was Para....nobody else, not even the Philippians guns used cast slides.
Cast frames sure, lots in use today.

I would strongly advise anyone looking at the 460 kits to have the barrel fit checked or done by a smith.....there are several engagement areas during lockup and unlocking that need to be checked.

Well I looked at the Brownells site again, and now there's a note below the conversion kit that says it can't be shipped out of the USA. I'm pretty sure that wasn't there last time I looked. I guess the other site is getting some more money now.

Brownell's won't export anything if the manufacturer is not licensed to export from the USA. I bet 460rowland does not know what ITAR is. Did you have to request an import permit from DFAIT?

I see no reason why a person couldn't use 460 Rowland brass shortened to 0.898" or Starline 45 Super (or even 45 Auto +P) instead of shortened and reamed 308 brass. I think I'll get a 22 lb spring and try it.

As for the 460 Rowland, that's well-done "hype" on their website, but why does a person even need the 460 Rowland "kit"? The 460 Rowland has the same OAL as the 45 ACP, but the cartridge is lengthened not for strength, but to prevent it from being loaded in a non Rowland gun. Is the barrel they provide somehow stronger? The muzzle brake sounds useful, but does it really spare the gun excess abuse?

Other option is to get Jason to ream out your .45 ACP chamber to the 460 Rowland... And use the full size brass.
Or as you said cut it down for 45/08 loads.
Either of these options sounds better to me as you are using a barrel that is already fit to the gun.

and yet they (Rowland) ship them to Canada directly in a clearly marked box that states what they are.
strange.

No idea whether they jump through the legal hoops or not. I ordered it, it showed up. I didn't have to fill out the end user paperwork like with Brownells though. I was even lucky enough to dodge the inspection for taxes this time.

Brownells doesn't carry the 460rowland.com conversion, they carry the Clark Custom Guns conversion, CCG doesn't ship anything outside of the U.S.

If you want one of these, best to order now from 460rowland before they realize what they are doing is going get then sent to GITMO....lol.
