1911 in 9mm for 3-Gun?

Here's the awesome feed angle of a 9mm 1911.

It's all in the way the mags are setup, tune the mags right and the bullets will just barely touch the top of the feed ramp. I wouldn't recommend a 9mm 1911 to someone that has no desire or skills with tuning guns but for those that want a hi performance competition pistol they are among the top in my opinion. Sometimes a good 9mm 1911 and good mags will run 100% right out the box however.

Funner Fact: The original Luger pistol magazines were made on a ridiculous forward angle. Not straight up and down.
Rounds were staggered in front of each other. Not directly on top of each other.

Funnest Fact:The 9mm Luger cartridge only became a real success after the double-stack magazine was invented to go with it.

Lmao. A whole day of research and that's the best rebuttal you got? Get over it. 9mm 1911s work.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to go ahead with a 1911 in 9mm this spring along with some decent mags. Worst case scenario is it doesn't work as reliably as I need and I end up buying the Walther PPQ Q5 Match sooner rather than later. That's a win-win in my books...

Aftec extractors are your friend. 1911's get a bad rap because they require fitting and attention to detail by a good gunsmith. Mass produced 1911's are not always fitted the way they should be. So for a reliable one, go for either a norinco that rattles or I'd say an sti with a regular guide rod (might have to buy the guide rod aftermarket) and an aftec extractor.

But, if you want a steel gun that runs out of the box, I'd say get a cz shadow. It was designed by JMB after he did the 1911. So they are his improvements over his original design.

X2 on Aftec, its the bomb.

Like that time 9mm Luger was designed for double stack pistol magazines.

I thought I already clarified that point for you?

The 9mm Luger cartridge design was completed (and made successful) by the invention of the double-stack magazine to go with it.

Aw c'mon, now you're just looking foolish. You said, "It was designed to be used in double-stack magazines." and that is clearly not the case. It was designed for the Luger semiautomatic pistol.

For a gun to be more dependable than that it would essentially have to have zero malfunctions. Does such a beast even exist?

Yes it does lol...My G34 hasnt choked like ever! No handloads required... Just pumping elcheapo manufactured 9mm through it.

Out of all the matches I've been to ( which isn't very many BTW) IF I whitness a handgun malfunction, it's always a 1911 platform.... Coincidence I think not.

And I'm no glock fanboy either, may sell the glock to buy a hammer gun soon.

Your statement collapses on itself.
I mean really... Read it slowly, out loud.
Either sly, mother ****ing tier one trolling or quite possibly the written equivalent of dividing by zero.

moral of my story though, despite my poor English. All the handguns (notice the plural) ive witnessed fail at a 3 gun match have been 1911 platforms........ just saying.

OP, just a suggestion, if you want an " all around pistol", its either Get the STI Eagle or Edge in 40 or have a good builder do it for you SVI, Freedon Gunworks) . You can shoot IPSC Standard div ( major or minor), 3 Gun and maybe IDPa, USPSA LIMITED 10 if you dont want to shoot high capacity in the U.S., In fact right now I'm starting doing my parts shopping. have an eye doctor appointment this August for the purpose of a RX shooting glasses after that I can go faster with my build.
btw, the 1911 was conceived as a 9mm chambered pistol in single stack, but the U.S. prefers the dependable 45, so JMB has to redesigned the blueprint. In theory the tapered case designed is more reliable in a single stack mag.

Still... You could have seen just one fail and still get away with saying "All" the guns you've seen fail were 1911's.

Conversely... I have been to possibly one hundred matches and haven't noticed the failure rate of any particular design stand out.
Most if not all evidence cited re how 1911's are fail-bots is hearsay and anicdotal.
Just like the "Glocks are grenades" stories we hear
